Egypt: 29 Muslim Brotherhood Financiers Have Assets Frozen

News from Associated Press and Xinhua:

MB logo29 leading members of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt (al-Ikhwanu I-Muslimin or Hizb al-Ikhwan Al-Muslimoon) had their assets frozen in late January, on the orders of General Abdel-Meguid Mahmoud, the Egyptian Attorney General. Earlier today, the Cairo Criminal Court upheld the asset freeze.

In elections held in late 2005, 88 members of parliament in the 454-seat lower house were elected while standing as "independents", but are members of the Muslim Brotherhood. Following attempts by members of the Muslim Brotherhood to assassinate President Nasser, the group was officially banned in 1954.

300 Brotherhood members have been arrested following a protest in December, which the government of Hosni Mubarak suggested was a move to take up arms. 50 Muslim Brotherhood members turned up at the December protest wearing balaclavas.

At the Cairo Criminal Court, where the 29 appeared behind bars, tere were protests. 200 people, the accused individuals' relatives and fellow Brotherhood members. protested outside the building.

In the court, Khayrat el-Shater, who is a strategist and one of the main financiers of the Brotherhood, shouted in the court: "This is a dictatorial regime, this is an autocratic regime."

A lawyer for the Brotherhood, Abdel-Moneim Abdel-Maksoud, claimed the asset freeze was illegal and political, saying: "This is a message from the government, but it will not affect the Brotherhood's peaceful discourse."

The Brotherhood is not peaceful - its attempts upon Nasser's life stand as testimony to its terror activities in Egypt. Terror group Hamas was founded by a Muslim Brotherhood member - Sheikh Ahmad Yassin - and carries out suicide bombings against Israeli civilians. Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the Muslim Brotherhood's spiritual leader, has issued a fatwa declaring it to be "permissable" for Muslims to kill Israeli civilians in terror attacks.

The Brotherhood was founded in 1928 by Hassan al-Banna. Originally it was merely a youth group, but soon became political. During the 1950s, under the spiritual leadership of Sayyid Qutb, the Brotherhood advanced the ideology of Islamism and global domination by Islam. Qutb was hanged in 1966.

President Hosni Mubarak has proposed amendments to the Egyptian constitution, which would prohibit the formation of any political party which has a religious basis.

UK: Dudley Mosque Rejected By Council

mosqueDudley is in the Black Country near Birmingham. The Local Dudley Muslim Association (DMA) has bought land in the borough, intending to erect a large mosque and community center. The land is on an area which the council has given over to the development of job-creation.

Late on Tuesday night the Metropolitan Borough Council decided to reject the DMA's proposal for the mosque. A small crowd outside the council building held placards while the decision was being taken, and they cheered when the news came out.

According to the Express & Star, one of the anti-mosque protesters was arrested following a scuffle. The mosque was to cost £6 million ($11.8 million), with the adjacent community center costing £12 million ($23.6 million). The mosque's minaret would have been 65ft in height - higher than any church in Dudley. Local TV news today showed locals in Dudley interviewed on the street. No-one questioned had any support for the mosque.

Khurshid Ahmed, chairman of the DMA, said he would appeal against the council decision. He said: "I'm fairly certain we will go to appeal because we have no other option. It's our land, we paid for it and we bought it. We have complied with all the conditions and satisfied professional assessors at great cost to get to this stage."

During the meeting, he said: "We have gone to some lengths to meet all these objections that the residents made and we have made amendments. We have been extremely tolerant and patient."

Planning experts had recommended breaking the guidelines to construct the mosque. Councillor Malcolm Davis, who opposed the construction, told the council meeting that the planning officers' decision was "most concerning". Council members from all parties insisted that the planning policy could not be broken.

Kurshid Ahmed told the BBC: "We bought the land from the council. We have it in writing from the council at that time that only a mosque and a community centre will be built as a condition of that particular land exchange. The only condition was that it would be a super-quality building because it was near the town centre."

Back in 2005, Dudley Metropolitan Borough Council made headlines, when a Muslim council member, Mahbubur Rahman, decided that images of pigs in the council's benefit offices offended his religious sensitivities. Things that offended him included a box of tissues carrying an image of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet. This led to a ban of all images of pigs in the department. Following international ridicule, the ban was subsequently lifted.

US: Georgia Muslim Preacher Jailed

News from Associated Press reports that 42-year old Mohamed Shorbagi, an illegal resident of the United States, has been sentenced today to seven years and eight months in jail. Back on August 28, 2006, shortly after his arrest, Shorbagi pleaded guilty to funding the terror organization Hamas.

The news of his pleading guilty was not released until October. An imam of a mosque in Rome in Atlanta, Georgia, Shorbagi had channelled funds to Hamas between 1997 and 2001.

According to the US Treasury: "General Background: The U.S. designated HAMAS as a terrorist organization pursuant to Executive Order 12947 in 1995 and as a foreign terrorist organization in 1997. HAMAS was also designated a "specially designated global terrorist" under E.O. 13224 in 2001. HAMAS is a terrorist organization that has intentionally killed hundreds of innocent civilians and continues to kill and maim with the aim of terrorizing a civilian population. HAMAS was formed in 1987 as an outgrowth of the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood. HAMAS activists have conducted many attacks - including large-scale suicide bombings - against Israeli citizens and military targets. In the early 1990s, they also targeted U.S. citizens, suspected Palestinian collaborators and Fatah rivals."

In October, a Justice Department statement had announced: "Shorbagi provided the support through donations to the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development knowing that some or all of the money was in fact destined for Hamas." The statement also claims that Shorbagi "hosted high-level Hamas officials" at the Rome mosque.

The Holy Land Foundation is listed by the US Treasury as a terrorist entity. This group helped to fund the Council on American-Islamic Relations. In 2000, HLF raised $13 million in donations. On December 4, 2001, President Bush announced the seizure of the assets and records of HLF. On July 27, 2004, the Holy Land Foundation had become a specially designated terrorist entity.

Shorbagi was said by US District Judge Harold Murphy that he would be sentenced in November, but the sentencing came today. Judge Murphy sentenced Shorbagi today, while US Attorney Kim Dammers suggested that he imposed less than the maximum sentence (15 years) because the convicted man had assisted the authorities in their investigations.

Shorbagi had been in the US for more than 20 years. He said: "I came to this country when I was 18 and I believe in this country. I realize that some of the things that I did was wrong and were never supposed to be done. That's why I took the responsibility of cooperating with the government."

Europe: Radical Islam and the Left - Part 3

Europe's Black Red Alliance: Part 3 of 3

by Adrian Morgan

Last September, French philosopher Robert Redeker wrote: "Islam presents itself, in the image of defunct Communism, as an alternative to the western world. In the manner of Communism before it, Islam, to conquer spirits, plays on a sensitive nerve. It prides itself on a legitimacy which troubles the western conscience, attentive to others: to be the voice of the oppressed of the planet. Yesterday, the voice of the poor claimed to come from Moscow, today it comes from Mecca! Today again, intellectuals express the views of the Koran, as they expressed the views of Moscow yesterday. They excommunicate people for Islamophobia, as yesterday they did for anti-communism."

ZapateroA bizarre aspect of many leftist politicians is their desire to make deals with Islamists who would act against all their professed socialist "principles". On March 11, 2004, multiple train bombings at Madrid, carried out by radical Muslims, caused 191 people to die and 1,700 to be injured. Three days later, a general election saw the minority left-wing PSOE or Spanish Socialist Workers' Party taking the reins of power. This party was led by José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero (pictured right).

One of the hallmarks of democracy is freedom of speech. In February 2006, Muslims around the world protested against freedom of speech, angered by publication of "blasphemous" cartoons of Mohammed. 50 people were killed in the global demonstrations. Yet in March 2006 Zapatero's government colluded with Pakistan to encourage the UN to enforce an international law prohibiting any kind of blasphemy.

Back in 1994, Chris Harman, a leading figure in the Socialist Workers Party (SWP), wrote: "The left has made two mistakes in relation to the Islamists in the past. The first has been to write them off as fascists, with whom we have nothing in common. The second has been to see them as 'progressives' who must not be criticised. These mistakes have jointly played a part in helping the Islamists to grow at the expense of the left in much of the Middle East. The need is for a different approach that sees Islamism as the product of a deep social crisis which it can do nothing to resolve, and which fights to win some of the young people who support it to a very different, independent, revolutionary socialist perspective." His party's uncritical support for Islamism has recently flourished, particularly since the Iraq invasion.

In France, mainstream politicians rarely promote any religious viewpoint due to the traditional separation of Church and State. The current candidate of the Socialist Party for the 2007 elections, Segolene Royal, has even proposed a motion to the National Assembly to reinforce constitutional secularism. The Socialist Party was in power for most of the 1980s, but alienated Muslim voters by failing to deliver social reforms.

For the French extreme left, unions with Islamists are not frowned upon. In 2004, a new group called Euro-Palestine was formed from a coalition of members of Lutte Ouvrière (Worker's Struggle) and Muslim representatives. The latter included anti-semitic Muslim "comedian" anti-semitic Muslim "comedian" Dieudonné M'bala M'bala.

Another Trotskyite group in France, similar to the UK's SWP, is Socialisme Par En Bas (SPEB, or "Socialism from Below") which had split off from Lutte Ouvri ère. Though small, SPEB has attracted Muslims from the Sorbonne and Jussieu universities. It has led most of the French anti-Iraq War protests. In 2004 Arlette Laguillere of Lutte Ouvriere said: "the struggle for Palestine" was an integral part of the "global proletarian revolution."

One leftist group based in Italy, Campo Antiimperialista operates in several European nations. Its anti-Iraq War stance has caused it to ally itself with Islamist groups. It supports Palestinian "resistance" and its French members include Serge Thion, a Holocaust denier.

In 2003 the European Social Forum (ESF), an annual anti-globalization conference, included several Muslim representatives and groups, including the grandson of the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood, Tariq Ramadan. This conference, held in November in Paris, also included Islamist groups Présence Musulmane, Secours Islamique and Collectif des Musulmans de France, inclusions that led to controversy. The fourth ESF conference, held in London in October 2004, similarly included prominent leftists and also Muslim groups such as the Muslim Council of Britain, and the Muslim Association of Britain.

It is to be expected that disadvantaged groups will vote for left-wing politicians. In Norway in 2005, 83% of Muslims voted for socialist parties. In Britain, members of ethnic minorities, including Muslims, have traditionally voted for the Labour Party.

Until the election of Tony Blair in 1997 the Labour Party espoused socialist principals. The party still contains radical leftists, and the courting of Muslim groups has continued. The Muslim Council of Britain comprises leaders who have supported bin Laden, but it nonetheless has the ear of government. Intelligence agency MI6 has actively courted the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood, as has the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

Labour politician Ken Livingstone had been demonized throughout the 1980s by the press as a radical, dubbed "Red Ken". Livingstone's commitment to the working classes is secondary to his commitment to his own self-aggrandizement. Livingstone was expelled from the Labour party on April 4, 2004, over the elections for the new post of London mayor. He had promised not to stand against Labour's official candidate, but broke his word, standing as an Independent. He won the election, and in 2004 he was readmitted to the Labour party. He was reelected as London Mayor in the same year.

LivQaradawi.jpgIn July 2004, Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, visited London. Livingstone welcomed him (left), even though the sheikh had advocated suicide bombings against Israeli civilians, and recommended that homosexuals should be thrown from cliffs. In September 2005 Livingstone compared Qaradawi to Pope John XXIII, calling him an "absolutely sane Islamist" and "the most powerfully progressive force for change and for engaging Islam with western values."

Qaradawi, who has a regular slot on Al Jazeera TV, has clearly made his intentions known: "Islam will return to Europe as a conqueror and victor, after being expelled from it twice - once from the South, from Andalusia, and a second time from the East, when it knocked several times on the door of Athens." He also said on TV: "Islam will return to Europe. Islam entered Europe twice and left it… Perhaps the next conquest, Allah willing, will be by means of preaching and ideology. The conquest need not necessarily be by the sword."

Livingstone recently spoke at a debate on the "Clash of Civilizations" against Daniel Pipes. Here, Livingstone again spoke in favor of Qaradawi, calling him the "future of Islam". Red Ken's choice of supporting speaker was Salma Yaqoob, who is a city councillor in Birmingham. In the debate, she blamed the terror attacks of 7/7 upon British foreign policy, rather than global Islamism. Yaqoob is a member of the Respect Party, which has sought to combine the politics of the Trotskyite Socialist Workers Party with Islamism.

George.jpgRespect's policies are not favored by all socialists. Tariq Ali was a famous student activist in the 1960s. He said in 2005: "The Left is at present very weak. As far as the radical Left is concerned I am not optimistic. In Britain I am not a member of Respect. I disagree with them on some points. The way things are happening in Respect is pure opportunism. Obviously I am in favour of working with Muslim groups, but for socialists the goal must be to win followers of religion to our own point of view, not to leave them in their entrenched positions."

Across Britain, Respect has only 20 elected town and city councillors. The only elected member of parliament in the Respect party is one of its founders - George Galloway (above right). For 30 years, Galloway had been a Labour MP, representing constituencies in Glasgow, Scotland. He was expelled from the Labour Party in October 2003, when he said: "The best thing British troops can do is to refuse to obey illegal orders". In 2005, he was elected as Respect's MP for Bethnal Green and Bow, a London constituency with a large Muslim population. He won this election by only 823 votes. While a Labour MP, Galloway had a poor voting record. In early 2006, Galloway upset his Muslim constituents by appearing on a "Big Brother" reality TV show, rather than representing them in parliament.

On a visit to Iraq in 1994, Galloway had said to Saddam Hussein: "Sir, I salute your courage, your strength, your indefatigability." In a January 23 interview for BBC's Hardtalk show, Galloway claimed he had praised the "indefatigability" of the Iraqi people, and not Saddam. Galloway admits that he has no chance of getting into power.even though he defends the Respect party as "a radical alternative to the rightward march of New Labour that will speak for millions." He has a thrice-weekly show on TalkSport Radio, and makes many TV and radio appearances, admitting that he uses these to promote his views. His voting record in parliament is as poor as ever. As a politician, 62-year old Galloway is a spent force.

Radical leftism is also a spent force, despite the agitation of fringe parties and pressure groups across Europe. Islamism, however, is not. With 16 million Muslims in Europe, with a younger generation becoming increasingly radicalized, Islamism is not going to disappear quietly. In Europe, but also in America, radical Islam's most extreme expression - terrorism - will be with us for longer than most would care to admit. As MI5 head Eliza Mannigham-Buller has said: "That threat is serious, is growing and will, I believe, be with us for a generation. It is a sustained campaign, not a series of isolated incidents. It aims to wear down our will to resist."

Germany: Brave Former Muslim Sees No Hope For Islamic Reform

Mina Ahadi is a 50-year old Iranian human rights activist, who now lives in Germany. Along with 29 other people, she announced her apostasy from Islam, forming the "Central Council of Ex-Muslims in Germany". As expected, almost as soon as she had declared her abandonment of Islam, Muslim extremists began to send her death threats, and she has been placed under police protection.

In an interview with der Spiegel, Mina explains her position. She aims with her council to assist women who wish to leave Islam. Tomorrow, the group will hold a news conference in Berlin, to set out the Council's aims.

She states: "I haven't been a Muslim for 30 years. I'm also critical of Islam in Germany and of the way the German government deals with the issue of Islam. Many Muslim organisations like the Central Council of Muslims in Germany (ZMD) or Milli Gorus engage in politics or interfere in people's everyday lives. They were invited to the conference on Islam (hosted by the government in Berlin last year). But their aims are hostile to women and to people in general."

She adds: "They want to force women to wear the headscarf. They promote a climate in which girls aren't allowed to have boyfriends or go to discos and in which homosexuality is demonized. I know Islam and for me it means death and pain."

Mina sadly sees no hope for Islam to reform itself, to rid itself of its pre-medieval and sexist attributes.

UK: British Council To Spend On Islam, Abandon European Projects

News from DPA and the Times reports that the British Council, which usually funds arts projects in Europe, is to change its emphasis. Founded in 1934, and receiving sponsorship from the government.

About a third of its European funding - £7.5 million or $14.7 million - will be diverted from fostering cultural ties with Europe, and instead be used for "spreading cultural values in the Middle East and Asia".

By March next year, half of its European offices will be closed. Already its offices in Russia, Bulgaria, Germany, Slovakia and Belgium have been shut down, with closures to take place at offices in Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Finland, Hungary, Slovenia, Slovakia, Austria, and Spain.

Martin Davidson, Director-General designate of the British Council, has been with the organization since 1983. He will become the Director-General on April 2. He states that it is now more important to repair cultural damage which has grown between Muslims in the Middle East, Iraq, Central Asia and Afghanistan, and to additionally bring cultural ties with China. The internet will be used for cultural ties with Europe.

Orchestras such as the London Sinfonietta will no longer be funded, and the nly large-scale arts funding will go to the Venice Bienniale. There will be initiatives to fund madrassas in Pakistan.

Davis said: "We started a year ago to ask the question: given the gap in trust that is becoming increasingly well-documented between Britain and the Muslim world, what are we going to do to react to that? Many aspects of our society are very attractive to people in the Islamic world, but there is a widening gap of trust."

Libraries in Europe which were funded by the British Council will be forced to shut down, unless these set up language courses to raise funds.

The British Council receives £186 million ($365.2 million) in public funding per year.

Malaysia: Malaysia Calls on Islamic Countries to Sever Ties With Israel

Malaysia, let us remember, is "a moderate Islamic Country": Malaysia proposes Islamic nations sever ties with Israel

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 25 (KUNA) -- Malaysia, as the chair of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), proposed that Islamic countries with established diplomatic relations with Israel sever these ties and recall their envoys in response to the Jewish state's atrocities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In a statement issued by BERNAMA, Malaysian Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar said the proposal was put forward at an extraordinary meeting of OIC foreign ministers on Israeli aggression against the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem that was held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, two days ago.

"We suggested that Islamic countries having diplomatic relations with Israel sever the ties or recall their ambassadors temporarily to show that we are serious and do not engage in mere empty talk," he said.

Syed Hamid said that the proposal, though difficult to implement, was agreed to in principle by the OIC countries and that OIC Secretary-General Prof Dr Ekmeleddin Ihsan Oghlu was following up on the matter.[...]

Uzbekistan: Three Protestants Await Trial for Religious Activity

Another "moderate Islamic country" shows its true face: UZBEKISTAN: Three Protestants await trial, but one freed

Two Pentecostal Christians in the north-west of Uzbekistan - where all Protestant activity is illegal - are facing criminal charges for their religious activity, Forum 18 News Service has learnt. The two -26-year-old Makset Djabbarbergenov and 32-year-old Salauat Serikbayev - each face up to five years' imprisonment if convicted. The Prosecutor's Office have repeatedly evaded any discussion of the cases with Forum 18. Elsewhere in Uzbekistan, Protestant pastor Dmitry Shestakov - arrested by the NSS secret police on 21 January - also awaits trial, with no date yet set. He is being held in prison. However, visiting Kazakh Protestant pastor Rishat Garifulin has been freed without charge, after being held by the NSS secret police for eleven days. But police in the south-west who raided a private home have detained six Protestants, as well as confiscating a Bible, two audiocassettes and three Christian books in Kazakh. Such confiscated literature - including the Bible - has often been burnt.[...]

British Multiculturalism - One Man's Experience

We received a testimonial from one of our readers, of his experiences of the current climate in Britain. We shall call him "Doug" to disguise his identity. In his own words, unedited, this is his account:

Why its time to go

This story starts in Bristol city in the SW of the United Kingdom. In June 2003 I decided to leave that city to return to Scotland the Country of my youth. The reason for that return was simple, I had witnessed a series of events, which had shocked and depressed me.

The worst of these was a serious assault against a student, he was walking home from a night out, he was causing no harm, the area was St Pauls, a notoriously crime ridden area, favoured by immigrants, and Afro Caribbeans. The student was set upon and his mobile stolen, he was left bloodied and unconscious, we went to help but we were no match for the attackers who fled instantly.

The other events in Bristol, which prompted my return North, included the introduction of armed police onto the streets of part of Bristol, this was done to combat the armed gang violence between black gangs. Bristol is the UK's crack capital. These gangs were a mix of Afro Caribbean "Yardies" and Somalian tribesmen, as well as a few indigenous hangers on. People who lived in these areas where subjected to endless robberies and assaults by drug addicts, crackheads etc. I decided that this was not for me. I packed my car and left. As I was leaving I noticed a large queue on the pavement I had seen the queue many times full of people of African and Middle Eastern extraction, they were outside the local Asylum seeker help centre. I paid little attention.

I was originally brought up in the Scottish lowlands a beautiful area of rolling hills and moor land, one of the least populated parts of the UK. On my arrival at my parents house I knew I had made a good decision, I immediately felt at home, amongst the trees and hills.

Anyway after a few months I started to set my mind to careers and money, without which we all know you don't get very far. I had friends in Glasgow a hundred miles North I decided to head up and look at opportunities. I have always liked Glasgow, it was once the richest city in the British Empire (per capita). A place with a chequered history but a good vibrant city. Well after a while I decided to move there, I chose to move to an area in the south side of the city, Pollokshields. This is area was one of the UK's first garden suburbs, massive houses, and beautiful large tenement apartments. I decided to purchase an apartment; it was one of the few areas I could afford given the UK's housing price boom. I had high hopes and was full of ideas and expectation.

It began the first night, the upstairs neighbours began shouting and screaming, a man was hitting his wife, the noise was unbearable, they were Pakistani, the area was home to the largest Pakistani Muslim community in Scotland. I had looked at the area and was bedazzled by the ornate Georgian architecture; I had forgotten to take a look at the more important social dimension.

Pollokshields is large area, E Pollokshileds where I live is majority Pakistani Muslim neighbourhood. I walked the streets I smiled at my neighbours they mostly ignored me. A car drove by one day a youth stuck their head out of a car and shouted, "White bastard" at me. A week later I noticed a young man driving aggressively on to a junction nearly hitting another oncoming motorist, he jumped out of his car shouted "White Bitch" at the driver then sped off. The same week I was walking past my Local Park, I watched as a young boy off about eight was chased from the Park crying by two young UK Pakistanis, I shouted as the boy was obviously very distressed, the other boys looked at me confused, and shouted something in another language I did not understand.

I took all of the above in my stride, I put it down to teething troubles in the "Multicultural garden" It would get better just give it time.

Well a week after that mid March 2004 a young Native Glaswegian boy was abducted, at the end of my street by four Pakistani Muslims, tortured and then burned alive, I won't go into details but as you may know Kriss Donald suffered an horrific death and for no apparent reason whatsoever other than he was white.

It was at this point I knew that I had fallen out of the frying pan and into the fire. My Multicultural fantasies were in tatters. I tried to sell my apartment no body was buying except the Muslims, I tried to rent it, and people loved the flat but the area was a hard sell. Few months later my German neighbours moved to Greece, my only friends in the community, their flat was sold to Muslims, they opened an Islamic School in the apartment, I complained, I was ignored, the whole block of flats became home to mostly Muslims and me, plus one seventy year old lady upstairs! I was stuck!

This week beginning of February 2007 I am finally able to sell up, I will be out of here by May. I have learned a lot, I have lived with the Muslims, I have learned that they have no desire to integrate into European culture or the European value system, I have learned that they have no interest in UK culture or anything else, they have Islam. Islam consumes them, it owns them, and it is them. That is what they are they are Muslim, a Muslim is loyal to Islam, Islam is a theocratic ideology, its goal is the spread of Allah's will, this task is the task of all Muslims. Muslims engage with us the "Kuffar" Not because they want to, but because they have to, if they did not have to they wouldn't.

I have met kind and courteous Muslims, I believe there are many types of people in this world, but Islam cancels this out, it homogenises whole nations, it takes away individual reason and liberty, I see this first hand in the eyes of uneducated Pakistani women who have been brought to Glasgow from the far off mountains of Kashmir. I also see it in the eyes of second and third generation Muslims, who just don't like the West, they live in a world which is ultimately incompatible with European values, they seek solace in a religion which blew out of the desert 1400 yrs ago, they seek solace in Mosques paid for with Wahabist oil dollars, the Muslims are at war with themselves, they want the lifestyle of the West, but they just don't like us! And I have decided that I can't like Islam, like many like-minded people I see it as an unmitigated threat to the values Europe should hold dear.

Now that Tony Blair is about to vacate office, people ask him what he believes his legacy will be. It will not be Iraq, it will be the beginning of a process of the Islamisation of the UK, Balkan Britain is upon us, I have seen it first hand, I have lived a small version of it, and when Britain finally appears out of its economic boom, and there is pressure on jobs, and services, the real effects of Multicultural polarisation will appear. Shattered unconnected communities in competition with each other but with no common value system or identity, unable to join together to achieve a common goal.

The New Labour government has ridden the world economic boom and told us it was their skill which has brought us prosperity, all I see is a Britain awash with disconnected and bitter asylum seekers, some battle hardened, mix with drunken drug addled youth. I also see the rise of superstition of which Islam is a large part.

The policies of the Neo Marxists with their reliance on abstractions such as "Human Rights" are leading us down a very very dangerous path; their international global misery is upon us.

The world is on the move, the invasion of Europe is not a conscious thing on the part of the Muslims and immigrants but it is inevitable, given the pressure on global resources, ideological expansionism in Islam, and the plummeting birth rates amongst indigenous Europeans. I am afraid that people like Tony Blair should heed the cliché statement "The road to hell is paved with good intentions" The West is making a Faustian pact with Islam, and we will pay the price, if things don't change.

I am still looking for a home.

Well these thoughts all came from a place I never imagined I would be, a place I don't feel at home in, namely my own country. The Liberal elites are the real enemy, the Muslims are just doing what they are supposed to do, I don't blame them, but they are not Europeans, and I don't like their values or ideology, because Islam is not a religion in the Western sense it's a theocratic ideological construct, with global ambitions, our leaders neglect this fact at our peril.

I hear the Canadian Rockies are nice this time of year?

Radical Islam And The Left - Europe's Black Red Alliance - Part 2

by Adrian Morgan

In February 2002 former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher published an article entitled "Islamism is the new Bolshevism". In this, she wrote: "Islamic extremism today, like bolshevism in the past, is an armed doctrine. It is an aggressive ideology promoted by fanatical, well-armed devotees. And, like communism, it requires an all-embracing long-term strategy to defeat it."

Her analogy is both prescient and historically accurate. Many early Bolsheviks made common cause with Islam. The philosopher Bertrand Russell visited Russia in 1920. A year later, his impressions were published in a book, "Theory and Practice of Bolshevism". He wrote: "Christianity and Buddhism are primarily personal religions, with mystical doctrines and a love of contemplation. Mohammedanism and Bolshevism are practical, social, unspiritual, concerned to win the empire of this world."

Russell also observed: "Bolshevism combines the characteristics of the French Revolution with those of the rise of Islam." He was naively optimistic about Bolshevism in these years before Stalin's purges, noting also that: "Marx has taught that Communism is fatally predestined to come about; this produces a state of mind not unlike that of the early successors of Mahommet."

In 1844, Karl Marx had famously described religion thus: "Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people." Russia's Bolshevik revolution of 1917 was made by people who revered Marx's ideology, but Lenin did not initially oppress religious institutions. Until the 1920s the Bolsheviks actively encouraged Islam, which had received no support from the Tsarist regime, state socialist authors David Crouch and Gerry Byrne.

Crouch wrote an article in late 2003 while his Socialist Workers Party was in the process of wooing political Islam in Britain. Byrne highlights instances of bias in the SWP member's account, but agrees that Lenin initially approved of a Muslim Communist Party and a Muslim Military College. Sharia courts were allowed to administer cases of domestic law in parallel with secular communist courts, but were prevented from dealing with political cases, or enacting stonings.

Chechnya's Muslims had supported the Bolsheviks, but others had fought against communism. In the regions of Central Asia, there was dissent. Here the Jadids had grown at the end of the Tsarist regime - Muslims who wished for an enlightened and modernizing cultural renewal of their faith. They initially found Bolshevism attractive as it appeared to conform to their view of Pan-Islamism, which had been promoted by Jamal al-Din al-Afghani (1838-1897). During the 1920s the Jadids became split by the Pan-Turkic movements of Central Asia, and groups of traditionalists, known as Basmachi, rebelled against both Jadids and communists.

Under Stalin, in 1927 a policy known as khudshum was introduced, which tried to force onto Muslims the issue of women's rights and the abolition of the Muslim veil. Many women who had thrown off their veils were subsequently massacred by Muslim traditionalists. There followed campaigns of repression whereby Islam in the Soviet Empire was forcibly "tamed" to comply with the Stalinist ethos.

In August 1919, Syrian born thinker and supporter of Pan-Islamism, Muhammad Rashid Rida (1865-1935) had written: "The Muslims wish for the success of the socialists in eliminating the enslavement of the peoples (all of whom are workers), while they reject such of their practices - and the practices of everyone else - that violate Islamic law." The Egyptian Mufti of that time, Muhammad Bakhit, had earlier issued a fatwa condemning Bolshevism, a position that Rida, who had studied under Jamal al-Din al-Afghani, did not uphold.

QutbPan-Islamism sought to unite Muslims from around the world, and to bridge the sectarian divides of Sunni and Shia Islam. When the Turkish-based Ottoman Empire was crushed in March 1924, there was no longer any Islamic center of power in the world. In Saudi Arabia, the Wahhabists of the Al-Saud family took control of Mecca in this decade. In 1928, Hassan al-Banna founded the Muslim Brotherhood was founded in Egypt as a youth group. Though strict and traditionalist, the Saudis welcomed Western oil money. The Muslim Brotherhood soon became political. In the 1950s Sayyid Qutb (right) became the Brotherhood's spiritual leader, and his books, such as Milestones on the Road (Ma'alim fi'l-Tariq), still influence modern Islamists.

Qutb had become radicalized while on a trip to America, and opposed both Western values and Egyptian President Nasser's policies of secular Pan-Arabism. Qutb saw jihad as a global movement, not confined to the Middle East. He was also an anti-Semite. Qutb was hanged in 1966, but he was never a traditional "socialist", despite the Brotherhood's later associations with socialists in Egypt, Europe and beyond.

Islamic fundamentalism is essentially driven by adherence to scripture, whereas Islamic socialist countries tend to be superficially secular. Herein lies the paradox- why are Western socialists so enamored with Islamic fundamentalism? In common with extreme socialists, extreme Muslims seek to force the dominance of their beliefs upon societies. At the heart of both ideologies is the idea of implementing a form of "retributive justice", either redressing the evils of consumerism and capitalism, or redressing the evils of infidel godlessness. Both systems believe that a society should be classless, but only Islamists believe the words of a 7th century "prophet" should dictate all aspects of life.

"Islamic socialism", a term which came into being in the 1960s, is nothing like Western notions of socialism, particularly those which thrive in Europe. Principally, Islamic socialism has to balance religious principles with socialism, which in essence is secular. In Pakistan, Islamic "socialism" was exemplified by Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, founder of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP). He was president of Pakistan after Bangladesh's war of secession from Pakistan until 1973, and then Prime Minister until 1977. After years of military dictatorship and a civil war, Bhutto's Islamic socialism was popular among many strands of society.

What finally destroyed Bhutto's "Islamic socialism" were the two things which had blighted Pakistan since independence - Islamism and military dictatorship. General Zia ul-Haq allied himself with the Islamists of the Jamaat-e-Islami, which had had been formed by Sayyid Abul A'la Maududi (1903-1979) in 1941. Maududi, like Qutb, is one of the founding fathers of modern Islamism. Though members of Jamaat-e-Islami still take part in the democratic process, their aim is to abolish democracy and establish a theocratic society, based upon sharia law.

Zia introduced the notorious Hudood laws in 1979, which meant that rape victims who could not produce four male Muslim witnesses became charged with adultery, and jailed. In 1986, Zia introduced Islamic blasphemy laws, which blatantly discriminate against members of the Ahmadiyyah sect of Islam. Article 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code states that anyone who blasphemes against Mohammed can receive the death penalty. In 1990, the Federal Shariat (Islamic) Court ruled that any breach of Article 295-C now merits a mandatory death sentence, with no rights of appeal.

Though his PPP party still exists in Pakistan's parliamentary system, Ali Bhutto paid the price for trying to unite his country under "Islamic socialism" with its slogan: "Islam is our faith; Democracy is our polity; Socialism is our economy; All power to the people." He was hanged on the orders of Zia ul-Haq on April 4,1979.

One thing is certain. Political Islam and democracy can never mix. Those in the West who seek alliances with Islamism do so at their own peril. Politically Muslim countries in the modern world have to strike a compromise with Islamist hardliners. Even "moderate" countries such as Indonesia have a constant battle with Islamists who are never repressed for fear of revolt, and others such as Malaysia have a system based entirely on racism. From age 12, all Malays are defined as Muslim, and no Malay is allowed to change their faith, despite a constitution which guarantees religious freedom.

In 1953 in Jerusalem, an Islamist scholar called Taqiuddin al-Nabhani (1909-1977) instituted Hizb ut-Tahrir, an Islamist political group which now has branches in most Western countries, apart from the Netherlands and Germany, where it is banned. It is banned in Russia, the countries of Central Asia, and all nations in the Middle East. Its aims are to destroy democracies and national boundaries to institute a Caliphate, a pan-national system of Islamic rule.

RedekerIts open contempt for democracy has not stopped leftist politicians in Western countries from trying to make alliances with Hizb-ut Tahrir. In March 2006, Clare Short, MP for Birmingham Ladywood invited members of Hizb to the UK Houses of Parliament. This leftist former member of Tony Blair's cabinet resisted all calls to cancel the event.

Why do Western leftists want to make common cause with Islamists who wish to destroy their democratic societies and subjugate them under sharia law? In part three, I will detail how far the problem has spread, and examine the rationale of these radicals of the left.

Perhaps, as I began with the words of a philosopher, I should finish here with the words of Robert Redeker (above left), a French philosopher, who wrote: "The Westerner, the heir to Christianity, is to be the one to make his soul exposed. He runs the risk of passing himself off as weak. With the same ardor as Communism, Islam treats generosity, broadmindedness, tolerance, gentleness, freedom of women and of manners, democratic values, as signs of decadence. These are the weaknesses that it seeks to exploit, by means of 'useful idiots', those of good consciences imbued with fine sentiments, in order to impose the Koranic order on the Western world itself."

Redeker's unflinching assessment of Islamism, and the moral poverty of Islam's founder, caused him to lose his job and his home after receiving Islamist death threats.

US: Following CAIR's Money

Pamela Geller points to a New York Sun story which mentions the following fact:

If you follow the money, you'll discover quickly that the intimidation continues. Oil-rich fundamentalist Arab regimes, including Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar have put big money into spreading their version of Islamic history.

Take two donations to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, an organization that has participated in its share of sinister activities. In June 2006, it was announced that Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal -- supposedly a friend of America who built his multibillion-dollar fortune partly through owning Citibank and Apple stocks -- will fund a $50 million CAIR project "to create a better understanding of Islam and Muslims" in America.[...]

If you want to know how a small, terror-linked organization wields such a disproportionate influence on American affairs, the first reason may still be the self-hatred and self-abasement our peoples have been indoctrinated in for the past five decades. But surely "generous donations" from Saudi "Princes" are not far behind. Pamela wonders how many Democrats can that money buy. But I say that can buy some weak-kneed Republicans too.

Pakistan: Islamist Fanatic Kills Woman Minister

Huma.jpgNews from Fox News, Reuters and the Pakistan Daily Times:

A woman minister in Pakistan was shot in the head earlier today by a Muslim described as a "fanatic". 37-year old Zilla Huma Usman (pictured) was a minister for social welfare in Punjab province, a mother of two sons and married to a doctor. She also ran a small fashion design business in Gujranwala.

She was at Pakistan Muslim League House in Gujranwala today when there was a brief power cut. During this, the man shot her in the head and shoulder. Zilla was rushed to Lahore General Hospital by helicopter, still alive, but she died shortly after admission.

Politically, Zilla was close to President Musharraf, and supported his policies of "enlightened moderation". She also promoted women's rights.

The reasons for the killing were explained by the gunman himself, Mohammed Sarwar, to television cameras. He said: "I have no regrets. I just obeyed Allah's commandment." He said that Islam did not allow women to be in positions of power. "I will kill all those women who do not follow the right path, if I am freed again," he claimed.

Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat said: "He is basically a fanatic. He is against the involvement of women in politics and government affairs. He considers it contrary to the teachings of Allah for a woman to become a minister or a ruler. That's why he committed this action." The minister promised "effective and immediate prosecution" of the killer, saying the government had ordered that the case should be brought to court within 14 days.

Local police officer Nazir Ahmed said: "He killed her because she was not observing the Islamic code of dress. She was also campaigning for emancipation of women."

Sarwar was immediately placed under arrest, with a murder charge lodged against him. He is a stone mason by trade, aged in his mid-40s. He had already been implicated in four actual murders and two attempted murders in Gujranwala. He had been released in relation to these previous cases for "insufficient evidence".

UK: Muslim Burned Family For "Being Western"

familyNews from the Independent, BBC, Preston Today, Sky News, This is Lancashire and the Blackburn Citizen:

An inquest finished earlier today in Blackburn, Lancashire on Caneze Riaz and her four daughters, who died in a blaze at their home in Accrington on November 1, 2006. 39-year old Caneze, her daughters Sayrah (16), Sophia (15), Alicia (10) and Hannah (3) had no way of escaping the fire as the doors of the home had been bolted. While they had slept, 49-year old Mohammed Riaz, husband to Caneze and father to the four girls, had poured gasoline around the house and had lit several fires. The five had died from smoke inhalation.

Police were told by associates and relatives that Mohammed Riaz was a conservative Muslim, and he was incensed that Caneze wanted to bring up the girls with Western ways.

Riaz had poured gasoline along the first floor landing and down the stairs, as well as in the living rooms. He had demanded arranged marriages for his daughters, but Caneze refused. The fanatical Muslim had destroyed Western-style clothes which had been bought for the girls.

On the night of the fire, Riaz had made three fires, outside the bedroom of his wife and his eldest daughter Sayrah.

Coroner at Blackburn Register Office, Michael SIngleton, took only 35 minutes to rule verdicts of unlawful killing for Caneze and her four daughters. Mrs Riaz had woken, and her DNA was found on a gasoline canister which had been placed in the doorway of her room - indicating she had tried to move it.

The fanatical father was pulled alive from the flames, having suffered 65% burns, but he died two days later at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester.

Only one member of the family survived. 17-year old son Adam Riaz was not in the house at the time, as he was in Christie Hospital in Manchester at the time. He was fighting leukaemia, a battle that he lost, dying on December 11.

Caneze's brother said: "Caneze wanted to help people make their lives better. She embraced Asian culture but worked hard to support those who felt suppressed by it. She was an excellent role model to young Asian women in Accrington, as well as to her own children and always encouraged them to live life to the full. It is true that her marriage to Mohammed (Riaz) had suffered over recent times and this is down to the different ways in which they approached their lives."

He said that Adam had suffered from Ewings Sarcoma and was not aware he was going to die. He had originally been given 3 to 6 months to live, but had clung to life for more than a year since his initial diagnosis.

Radical Islam And Leftism - The Black Red Alliance: Part One

by Adrian Morgan

In 2004, David Horowitz published Unholy Alliance: Radical Islam and the American Left, a seminal work based on the author's 50-year experience of the American Left. Since the book was written, the links between Islam and the left have become stronger, and not just in the United States. The global anti-war movements have naturally forged alliances between leftists and Islamists.

In Britain the anti-war movement has created a political party, the Respect party. This group is headed by the notorious showman, George Galloway, its only elected member of parliament. Founded on January 25, 2004, this party is officially called "Respect - The Unity Coalition", and grew directly out of the "Stop the War" movement. Respect encourages its members to also belong to other political groups, namely the Socialist Workers Party (SWP), the Muslim Association of Britain and the Muslim Council of Britain.

RidleyThe SWP has always demonized Israel, and their involvement in Respect has led to the new party's official policy being stauchly anti-Israeli: "We support the call for a boycott of Israeli goods and services, of tourism to Israel, and of academic, sporting and cultural links with Israeli bodies." One of Respect's senior figures, Yvonne Ridley (pictured, right), told students at Imperial College in February 2006 that "if there was any Zionism in the Respect Party they would be hunted down and kicked out. We have no time for Zionists." She described Israel as "that disgusting little watchdog of America that is festering in the Middle East."

Ridley, a convert to Islam, told Muslims in East London on June 7 2006 that they should stop cooperating with police. Ridley's bizarre trajectory from Christian Sunday school teacher to Islamist will be discussed in a later article, but her website has a book list, which is compiled "In association with Maktabah on a monthly basis." Maktabah states on its home page: "Due to unforseen circumstances, we are unable to process any online or telephone orders for approx. 28 days."

And why should Maktabah be unable to process orders? The Maktabah bookshop in Birmingham was recently raided by anti-terror police, in connection with a plot to kidnap and behead a British Muslim soldier. In 1999, Maktabah published a book on Kashmiri jihad, "The Army of Madinah in Kashmir" written by Esa al-Hindi. Hindi is in fact Dhiren Barot, who on November 7, 2006 was sentenced to 40 years' jail for plots to attack targets in Britain and the USA.

These targets included the Prudential building in Newark, the Citigroup building in New York and others. In April 2001, Barot had taken video footage of the World Trade Center. As his camera focused on the towers, he turned the camera, so they lay horizontal in the frame of view. In another clip, he again turned the camera on its side when taking a video the World Trade Center, and he can be simultaneously heard making the sound of an explosion.

Yvonne Ridley is no stranger to terrorists. In 2004, she described Abu Hamza al-Masri, the hook-handed cleric as "quite sweet really". This was before Hamza was jailed for 7 years on February 7, 2006 for inciting murder of Jews, Hindus and non-Muslims. The first of Ridley's three husbands, Daoud Zaaroura, had been a colonel in the terrorist Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO).

The Stop the War Coalition, from which the Respect Party grew, is dominated by leftists. Its "convenor" is Lindsey German (pictured left), who is on the central committee of the SWP and has stood a parliamentary candidate for the Respect Party. She explained in July, 2004 the Stop the War coalition's approach to Muslims, claiming they were poor victims, who needed her condescending middle class protection: "It should be a badge of honour to those of us on the left that a group of people who face discrimination and victimisation should look to organisations like Stop the War Coalition to help defend them - and that the overwhelming majority of those so politicised do not turn to fundamentalist groups but to socialists, trade unionists and peace campaigners."

GermanShe complained then that the Muslim Association of Britain (MAB) was under attack, along with Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the "spiritual leader" of the Muslim Brotherhood, who has justified terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians. MAB has strong links with the Muslim Brotherhood, being founded in 1997 by Kamal Tawfik el-Helbawy, a member of the Islamist group. Mohammed Kassem Sawalha, a senior member of the MAB, is not only linked to the Muslim Brotherhood, but was a former fundraiser for the terrorist group Hamas.

The Muslim Brotherhood has made deals with leftists in Egypt, the country where it was founded in 1928. In 1987 the Brotherhood forged an alliance with the Socialist Labour Party and the Liberal Socialist Party, called the Labour Islamic Alliance. The Alliance won 60 seats in the Egyptian elections that year, with 37 of these belonging to the Brotherhood's representatives.

The Muslim Association of Britain, with leaders such as Azzam al-Tamimi support terrorist operations in Israel, is happy to court the left to serve its own political ends. On February 16, the first major Stop the War march took place in London, organized with the help of the Muslim Association of Britain. Though the protesters were complaining about the impending Iraq invasion, which followed a month later, official banners at the march read: "No war on Iraq - freedom for Palestine".

The notion of Palestinian "victimhood" has been a keystone of leftist and Islamist ideology for more than three decades, coupled with a jealous contempt for America and Israel. The 2004 rally had influential leftists speaking, such as playwright Harold Pinter, who claimed America was "a country run by a bunch of criminal lunatics".

The Trotskyist Socialist Workers Party has made ridiculous gestures of solidarity with its Muslim affiliates, garnering scorn from Marxist members of the left. At one demonstration outside the Israeli Embassy in London, a white female SWP organizer urged non-Muslim women to cover their heads with scarves, "to show respect" at a demonstration which was "mostly Muslim."

Three days before 9/11, the SWP published an article which claimed the Taliban made women remain secluded at home "as a means of protecting them. At an anti-war meeting in Birmingham, SWP members bowed down to the bigotry of Muslim members by banning an apostate from Islam from attending. At another anti-war rally at Trafalgar Square, the SWP encouraged segregation of secular men and women, in deference to the Muslims present. This behavior led Marxist Sean Matgamna to describe the SWP as "demoralised Guardian readers with headscarves".

The theme of the so-called "Black Red Alliance" was discussed by Douglas Davis in the Spectator (also available here). He noted that Spark, journal of the Socialist Labour Party, run by former miner Arthur Scargill, had called Asif Hanif, a young Islamist from Britain's Al-Muhajiroun group, as a "hero of revolutionary youth". On April 30, 2003, Hanif had killed 3 Israelis and wounded 60 others in a suicide attack on Mike's Bar on the Tel Aviv seafront.

Davis noted that in August 2002, Ayman al-Zawahiri, Al Qaeda's deputy leader, had urged British Muslims to seek alliances among "any movement that opposes America, even atheists." Abu Hamza had said to his followers: "We say to anyone who hates the Americans and wants to throw the Jews out of Palestine - Ahlan wa Sahlan (welcome). The Prophet teaches that we could ally ourselves even with the atheists if it helps us destroy [the] enemy."

The union of Islam and the left is celebrated in France by Olivier Besançonneau, leader of the French Trotskyites. He said of Muslims: "Are these not the new slaves? Is it not natural they should unite with the working class to destroy the capitalist system?" The French Communist Party commissioned a study to examine the electoral potential of forging alliances with Muslim groups. Already, leftist French groups such as the Revolutionary Communist League (Ligue Communiste Révolutionnaire) and Workers' Struggle (Lutte Ouvri ère) have allied themselves with Islamists to gain seats in the European Parliament.

The language of the proponents of the Black Red Alliance is confrontational when dealing with valid criticisms of Islamists and Muslim extremists. The main term used to silence criticism is "Islamophobe". In Britain, a website has been in existence for more than a year, calling itself Islamophobia-watch. This site is run by two individuals. One is Eddie Truman, who is both a member of Britain's Communist Party and spokesman of the Scottish Socialist Party. The main writer, who describes critics of Islamist radicalism (myself included) as "right-wing racists" and "Islamophobes", calls himself Martin Sullivan. His real identity is Bob Pitt, who was formerly secretary of the Workers Revolutionary Party.

Pitt's rants on this website praise leftists such as Ken Livingstone, who himself exemplifies the stance of the Black Red Alliance. Livingstone's support for Yusuf al-Qaradawi is mirrored on Islamophobia-watch.

Individually, the parties within the Stop the War Coalition or Respect would stand little chance of getting elected. United, they nonetheless wield political influence. They have also made common cause with other Black Red allies from other countries. In December 2002, before the March 19 invasion of Iraq, a meeting was convened in Egypt which brought international leftists and Islamists to the same table. The meeting resulted in the first Cairo declaration "Against U.S. Hegemony and War on Iraq and In Solidarity with Palestine". In Decamber 2003, a second Cairo declaration was announced, whose aims included continuing the "pursuance of the struggle to support the unified international front against imperialism and capitalist globalization."

The naive arguments of these leftists would be risible, were it not for the fact that now, as the Iraq War shows no sign of an imminent conclusion, their views are increasingly being heard. The spokespeople of the Black Red Alliance are edging further into the mainstream politics of both Europe and America.

Thailand: Massive Bomb Campaign In Muslim South

mapSince Thailand's Muslim insurgency began in January 2004, the death toll has now officially tipped over the 2,000 mark. The bloodless army coup which took place on September 17, 2006 removed the government of Thaksin Shinawatra and his Thai Rak Thai party, which had been accused of widespread corruption. The coup was led by the then commander of the fourth army, General Sonthi Boonyaratkalin, a Muslim. He instituted a new interim government, and placed a Muslim, Aree Wong-araya, as interior minister. Initially, there were some hopes that the new government, led by Surayud Chulanont, would be able to make good on its promises for peace in the troubled south.

Some bizarre notions of solving the insurgency involved bringing foreign Muslims from Malaysia, and studying Muslim insurgent activity in Indonesia to solve what should be internal problems, and even offering Islamic law to locals as an inducement to gain peace.

The insurgency is predominantly located in three southern provinces of Thailand - Pattani, Narathiwat and Yala - with additional activity sometimes taking place in two districts of Songkhla province. These regions formerly belonged to an independent sultanate called Pattani. Originally this sultanate was powerful, and had influence throughout southeast Asia, but by the mid 17th century had fallen into decline, and accepted its role as a vassal state of Siam (Thailand). Pattani was invaded by Siam in 1786. It was officially annexed by Siam in 1902.

80% of the population in the southern provinces are ethnic Malay, speaking a dialect called Yawi, and are Muslim. The rest are generally Buddhist.

What is certain that the new regime, and the new approach to dealing with the problems in the mainly Muslim south have spectacularly failed. Insurgent activity is taking place at its highest rate for nearly two years, and the death rates have increased dramatically since September's coup.

On Sunday (Feb 18) and Monday (today) a series of coordinated bomb and arson attacks have plunged the southern provinces into a state of chaos. On Sunday, seven people were killed and 53 people were injured in Narathiwat, Yala, Pattani and Songkhla. On Monday more attacks continued.

The initial bombing happened in Narathiwat on Sunday morning, at a bus stop in Rueso district.A second bomb went off nearby as officers arrived to ispect the damage from the first bomb. In Muang district, a bomb exploded in front of a food shop, wounding five people.

In Rueso district, a military team was attacked by a group of insurgents on motorcycles as it escorted teachers home from school. One military officer suffered severe injuries in the ambush. Also in Rueso, a roadside bomb injured five Border Patrol Police officers.

The Internal Security Operations Command stated that a total of 54 near-simultaneous attacks had taken place on SUnday , including 29 bomb blasts, 11 arson attacks upon public buildings (including schools) and five shootings.

In Yala province earlier today, two bombs went off in Raman district. One of these killed a paramilitary ranger, Major Prasan Naktang. His 12-year old son, Jetsada, was also injured in the blast. The explosion happened as Major Prasan opened the gate of his home as he prepared to go to work. The second Raman blast injured an adult villager and also a 7-year old boy.

In Bannang Sata district in Yala, a soldier was injured in an ambush by militants. Bombs were defused in a patrol station, beside an electricity pylon and at a karaoke pub.

In Pattani, a car salesroom in Muang district was hit by a bomb blast. This injured two military personnel, and four workers at the Chevrolet car sales franchise. 20 cars were damaged.

The strategy of dealing with the insurgency has been declared in need of revision by police and government. The acting national police chief, Gen. Sereepisut Temiyaves said on Monday that he will be visiting the southern provinces next week. But he stated that the current measures against the widespread terrorism, which are reactive - responding to events as they happen - should be pro-active.

Interior minister Aree Wong-araya said that police and military security officers should rethink their strategies. Wong-araya said that these agencies were too cautious to act upon intelligence, for fear of inflaming tensions between Muslims and non-Muslims. Such comments are hypocritical, considering Wong-araya has been himself trying to implement a policy of appeasement and compromise with the communities of the south. These arguments on how to deal with insurgents - pro-actively or reactively - beset the previous government of Thaksin Shinawatra.

Prime minister Surayud Chulanont met security leaders on Monday to discuss security measures in the upcoming weeks. The weekend saw the implementation of the Chinese New Year, and in March there will be a Buddhist public holiday. The Thai New Year (Songkran) wil take place in mid-April.

Chulanont warned security officers that there is a high likelihood of further attacks on Tuesday. Army chief of staff Gen. Montri Sangkhasap reported that Chulanont had said that more coordination needs to happen between the various government units charged with dealing with the insurgency. The police will additionally be increasing security at bus terminals.

Saudi Arabia: Four Sri Lankans Beheaded

Reader GW from Sri Lanka, who wrote to us about the story, asks us to highlight this barbaric Islamic practice. That I'll do, but I also wonder: how come so many of those executed in Saudi Arabia are foreigner workers?

Islamic judicial barbarism and supremacism, from "our friends the Saudis": Saudi Arabia beheads 4 Sri Lankans convicted of armed robbery

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia on Monday beheaded four Sri Lankans convicted of committing armed robbery, the state-run news agency said.

The four men were convicted of "forming a criminal gang which robbed a number of companies and threatened accountants and workers with weapons, shooting one of them and stealing his car," the kingdom's official Saudi Press Agency reported, citing an interior ministry statement.[...]

US: Cab Driver Runs Down Students After "Religious Debate"

Let me be blunt: the cab driver's religion is not mentioned in the news story, so I'm guessing he's a Muslim: Cab driver arrested for running over student after religious debate

A cab driver was arrested Sunday after police said he ran over one of his passengers after they got into a religious argument.

Ibrahim Ahmed, 37, a driver for United Cab, was arrested and charged with assault and attempted homicide for trying to hit two customers early Sunday morning.
"When they exited the vehicle, after having paid the cab driver for their fare, that's when the cab driver chased them down across the parking lot and ran them down," Officer John Pepper told WSMV-TV in Nashville.

Jeremy Invus was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with serious injuries. Another passenger, Andrew Nelson, avoided the cab.[...]

The link above takes you to a site which allows comments. As I write this there are three comments posted. Don't miss the second one from the bottom--if you haven't seen perfect cowardice before, you will see it today.

UK: Giant London Mosque May Be Blocked By Government

The extremist organization Tablighi Jamaat has been planning to build a super-mosque in the borough of Newham, east London. The plans first came to light in November 26, when the Sunday Times reported that the Borough Council for Newham had already given provisional approval for the construction of the "London Markaz", designed by architect Ali Mangera of Mangera Yvars Architects, which is based in Barcelona and London.

The "London Markaz" was designed to be three storeys high, capable of holding up to 70,000 people, and the Tablighi Jamaat had hoped that the mosque would be open in time for the London 2012 Olympics. The estimated $180 million construction costs were expected to come from Britain and abroad. The "abroad" would almost certainly mean Saudi Arabia.

In September last year, it was revealed that a campaign had been mounted by local Muslims who opposed the presence of the super-mosque. 2,500 had signed the petition, and that figure is now standing at 3,000.

In November 2006 Conservative MP Michael Gove asked questions in parliament about the super-mosque.

Gove said: "An even more profound concern arises in connection with the plans, in east London, for the erection of the largest mosque—indeed, the largest house of worship—in the country. It is intended to accommodate between 40,000 and 70,000 worshippers, and it is estimated that it will cost between £100 million and £300 million. The mosque, which is being built by an organisation called Tablighi Jamaat, raises profound concerns, not least because that organisation has been described by French intelligence as an “antechamber of fundamentalism”. Two of the 7/7 bombers had direct links with the Tablighi Jamaat mosque in Dewsbury. Richard Reid, the shoe-bomber, had links with the organisation, as did John Walker Lindh, the so-called American Taliban. How can an organisation that, according to the Charity Commission, records an income of just £500,000 a year, afford to build a mosque that will cost anything between £100 million and £300 million?"

According to the Sunday Telegraph, the charitable trust which operates on behalf of Tablighi Jamaat is Anjuman ul-Muslimeen, no 262392. While searching the records of the Charity Commission, it is surprising how many "charities" are registered, whose main purpose is the "advancement of Islam". Should such activities benefit from charity status?

The headquarters of Tablighi Jamaat is the Markaz in Savile Town, Dewsbury, and it is associated with extremist outlooks. Funded by Saudi money, it has a school attached to it. This school was criticized by UK government schools inspectors as less a place of learning and more of a "madrassa". The report by Ofsted claimed that the school's "over-emphasis" on religion meant secular studies were neglected. It wrote: "Teachers showed limited understanding of pupils aptitudes, needs and prior attainments."

Today, the Sunday Telegraph reports that a senior source within government has suggested that the planned super-mosque at the 18-acre Abbey Mill site in Newham will almost certainly be blocked by the government. The source said: "We are going to stop it."

The London Thames Gateway Unitary Development Corporation is thought to have supported the construction of the mosque, and this group answers directly to the supporter of Islamism, Ken Livingstone, who is mayor of London.

Netherlands: Saudis Insist Wilders Retracts Islamic Comments

Last Tuesday, Dutch right-wing politician Geert Wilders made some scathing assessments of Islam. The comments were made during an interview with De Pers newspaper. Wilders said: "If Mohammed lived here today, I would propose he be tarred and feathered as an extremist and driven out of the country." He said half of the Koran shoulf be torn up and thrown away, and also stated: "Everything we are proud of, we are selling to the devil. Former head of the Mossad Efraim Halevy says that World War III has begun. I would not use those words, but it's true."

He added: "Take a walk down the street and see where this is going. You no longer feel like you are living in your own country. There is a battle going on and we have to defend ourselves. Before you know it there will be more mosques than churches!"

Now, DPA reports that the Saudi ambassador to the Netherlands, Waleed al-Khareejy has today demanded that Wilders should retract his remarks. Khareejy said an apology was "necessary".

The ambassador did not want to invite publicity for his demands, saying he would prefer to follow up the issue "away from the press". One thing the Saudis should realize is that in the Western world we have freedom of speech. If the Saudi Embassy decides to make a political issue about one man's expression of his personal opinions, he could find himself provoking a backlash.

Islam in the Netherlands is allowed to be practised freely, and mosques are in most towns. In Saudi Arabia, no other faith can be followed other than Islam, and freedom of speech is unheard of. If this ambassador decides to interfere with a politician's freedom of speech concerning the ideology which is Islam, when his own country refuses people the freedom to worship, he will only highlight the failings and repression of his own society.

Australia: Muslim Terrorist's Mother Attacks Photographer

SalehSaleh Jamal was being held in jail in Lebanon, awaiting extradition. He was finally brought back to Australia, and on September 28 2006 he appeared in court in Sydney.

He was on trial for shooting a man named Elias Elias at a park in Greenacre in Sydney in October 1998, with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Elias was shot in the foot, thigh, buttock and shoulder. Standing trial with him was Michael Kanaan, a triple-killer.

Additionally, Jamal will face trial for being involved in a drive-by shooting upon Lakemba police station in Sydney in 1998.

On February 15, Saleh Jamal and his associate were both found guilty, and will be sentenced in March. The Australian Daily Telegraph reports that neither Saleh nor Kanaan showed any emotion when sentenced.

However, outside the courtroom, Lebanese-born Amina Jamal, Saleh's mother, decided to take out her anger on a photographer from the paper. She hurled her bag at the face of John Grainger, causing his face to bleed.

Saleh Jamal's younger brother Omar had his passport removed in 2005, following raids upon the Jamal family household, mounted by ASIO, the Australian intelligence and security services.

Saleh Jamal's recent history is bizarre. Following the incidents in Lakemba and Greenacre, he had skipped bail and fled Australia.

He was captured in Lebanon in May 2004 as he tried to board a plane to Paris. was charged for entering Lebanon on a false passport. He was given a five year jail sentence for this offence, but Lebanese prosecutors wanted him charged on more serious terrorism charges. They wanted to try him for delivering material to Islamists who carried out a bomb assault in Damascus, Syria, two weeks prior to his arrest. The attack near an embassy compound cost two people their lives.

Lebanese prosecution papers revealed allegations that he was sent abroad by an Australian Islamist, with the intention of staging jihad offensives against US and Israeli interests. This man's name was not disclosed, but another AUstralian Islamist, Ashref Shaha, had given Jamal money.

Jamal had attempted to join Abu Musab al-Zarqawi but was foiled by Jordanian officials, who barred him entry to their country. Saleh Jamal is said to have been introduced to Zarqawi's network, "Al Qaeda of the Two Rivers" through a Bosnian associate whom he met in Lebanon, called Abdullah Taratshebak. This man, and another accused terrorist called Abdul Latif, attempted with Jamal to enter Iraq via Jordan.

Jamal was suspected by Lebanese authorities of involvement with the bombing of a Beirut McDonald's restaurant in April 2003. Jamal, who lives at Belfield Sydney, worshipped at the Haldon Street prayer hall at Lakemba.

Eventually charges of involvement in the logistics preceding a bomb attack near Damascus were dropped, but at the request of Australian authorities Jamal remained in custody, awaiting extradition.

Jamal is also thought to have planned a terror attack against Sydney. He said in 2005, while in custody in Lebanon: "If they try to take me to Australia, I will crash a plane into the (Sydney) harbour bridge myself. Australia is like a paradise in many ways, but it is a sick place."

He had apparently purchased a small boat to reconnoiter sites including he harbour bridge and Sydney Opera House. Before he fled in March 2004, he had been a key target in the surveillance operation Operation Pendennis, which led to the arrests of 18 people on terrorist charges from Melbourne and Sydney on November 8 2005.

Below are pictures of Jamal's mother.

Utah: Refusing to Look for the Truth

Most of us have heard about "the Utah Mall Shootings"; the murder of five people by an 18-year-old Bosnian Muslim. For the story and some of the implications, Robert Spencer's article in Frontpage Magazine is a good place to start.

But I want to concentrate on a comment made by a FBI spokesman on Fox News (quoted from memory), he said, roughly:

"We may never know what motivated him to commit these murders."

That much is true. But there are two ways of never knowing; one lies in the intrinsic difficulty of finding the truth and examining evidence, the other consists of refusing to look at the evidence at all. Neither the FBI nor the Utah PD will be looking at the evidence in this matter.

Worse contempt for the truth I cannot imagine.

UK: Islamist Abu Izzadeen - In His Own Words - Part Two

The earlier instalments of this article appeared in three parts (here, here and here) earlier in Family Security Matters.

izz

Abu Izzadeen - In His Own Words - Part Two

by Adrian Morgan

Abu Izzadeen, former member of Al-Muhajiroun, has consistently escaped prosecution. In August 2005, the Attorney General and the Head of the Crown Prosecutions investigated the possibility of taking Izzadeen to court, but decided to do nothing. In yesterday's Part II, I provided a transcript of a speech which Izzadeen had made in Small Heath, Birmingham, on July 2, 2006. This speech appeared to glorify terrorism.

In April 2006, a new law entered Britain's statute books, the Terrorism Act 2006. Under Schedule 1, section 1 (3a) of this law, it is illegal if someone: "glorifies the commission or preparation (whether in the past, in the future or generally) of such acts or offences; and (b) is a statement from which those members of the public could reasonably be expected to infer that what is being glorified is being glorified as conduct that should be emulated by them in existing circumstances." The maximum sentence for this offense is 7 years' imprisonment, if conviction follows an indictment.

On September 20, 2006, Izzadeen interrupted a speech given by the UK Home Secretary, John Reid, at Leytonstone, northeast London. Izzadeen yelled out: "I am furious. I am absolutely furious - John Reid should not come to a Muslim area. You are an enemy of Islam and Muslims. Shame on all of us for sitting down and listening to him." He spoke of "state terrorism" by UK police. "They are going to come in the morning to your house ... they are going to kick your door down when you're in bed with your wife, then drag you from your own bed."

Izzadeen said: "John Reid, Tony Blair and George Bush's crusade can all go to Hell."

Five days after this outburst, the Sunday Telegraph revealed that the Crown Prosecution Service had said an "ongoing investigation" of Izzadeen was underway. This investigation was examining the possibilities of mounting charges of incitement and solicitation to murder. A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said that "it may be that we still require further evidence for the most serious charges being considered."

Finally, on Friday February 9 last week, Izzadeen was brought before a judge. He had been arrested the day before. The arrest was connected with his Small Heath speech from July 2, 2006. He was charged under Section 1 of the 2006 Terrorism Act with glorifying terrorism. Izzadeen was told by Judge Daphne Wickham to surrender his passport and not to attend any organized meetings before she granted him conditional bail.

Izzadeen was a spokesperson for the group Al Ghurabaa and also was a senior figure in the Saviour/Saved Sect, spin-off groups formed after the dissolution of Al-Muhajiroun. In July, shortly after the notorious Small Heath speech, these groups were officially banned by John Reid. The Home Secretary had failed to outlaw another group comprising exactly the same membership, Ahlus Sunna Wal Jamaah. This had been inaugurated in November 2005, with Izzadeen in attendance.

After Izzadeen heckled John Reid in Leytonstone, he was invited to appear on BBC's Radio 4, on its prestigious morning show Today. Izzadeen said: "We are not talking about elections. I'm a Muslim; I work with the community, I live in the community, John Reid doesn't. And I'm telling you we have had enough. We've had enough of the police raids, enough of the shooting in Forest Gates, enough of the arrests inside Walthamstow, inside restaurants, under the guise of your war against terror which everybody knows, Muslims and non-Muslims, is a war against Islam."

"And I'm telling you something - if they don't stop this there's going to be a very strong reaction from the community, maybe not from me on an individual level, but people have had enough."

When asked by the interviewer to explain this, Izzadeen said: "Well I think the British Government, they should really open their eyes and smell the coffee. You can only push people to a certain level until they explode. We are not talking about a self-suicide operation, but there is a tension within the community because they are being targeted. If you're going to talk terrorism you have to look at Tony Blair because at the moment, the biggest terrorist is George Bush and his side-kick."

Aware of the ramifications of the Terrorism Act 2006, Izzadeen refused to state that Muslim terrorism was "justified", but returned to his favorite themes: "As a Muslim I believe Allah created whole universe; he created the UK. It doesn't belong to you, it doesn't belong to the Queen, it doesn't belong to the Anglo-Saxons. Allah has put us on the planet earth to live wherever we want and implement the Sharia rules... Democracy means sovereignty for man; and as a Muslim, we believe sovereignty for the Sharia, therefore I would never take part in democratic principles. Rather I will work to change society in accordance with Islamic methodology."

Though a trained electrician, Izzadeen does not work, and has not worked for years. A doctrine of his "spiritual leader" Omar Bakri Mohammed maintains that British Muslims should live off welfare benefits provided by the democratic system they aim to destroy. Izzadeen receives an estimated £700 ($1,363) in state benefits each month to pay for himself, his Arabic wife and their three children.

Despite having a family and one wife, Izzadeen tried to gain three extra "wives" last September. The way Izzadeen described himself on an Islamic matrimonial site gives an insight on the Islamist's monstrous ego and narcissism. He called himself "the life of the party" and claimed to watch "a lot" of Al Jazeera TV. The wives he was seeking had to be aged over 16 and under 40. He described himself as "passionate, bold, protective, witty and sensitive". He claimed to be "very funny, loving and humble towards the believers," and said he went to the gym regularly and loved kung fu. He claimed his most "attractive feature" was his "long beard". He admitted it did not grow beyond a certain length, but added that he was "muscular", 5 foot 11 inches tall, and that he had hazel eyes.

Any additional wives would not be legitimate, and would not be maintained by Izzadeen financially. That would be the duty of the democratic society which he hates so much. Izzadeen claimed on the website MuslimIntro.com that he wished to father nine additional children by new wives.

Izzadeen is an attention-seeker. His appearances on video and TV have drawn hostile reactions from the UK public who have witnessed his rants, and now he is facing charges of "glorifying terrorism". He maintains that he is an Islamic scholar, but in practice, he is little more than a thug. The Muslim group he still belongs to, Ahlus Sunna Wal Jamaah, was involved in illegal protests against the Danish cartoons on February 3, 2006.

Outside the Danish Embassy in London, members of this group carried placards which read: "Behead those who insult Islam", "Europe. Take some lessons from 9/11", "Europe you will pay. Demolition is on its way", "Europe you will pay. Your extermination is on its way," "Slay those who insult Islam," "Butcher those who insult Islam." Ahlus Sunna Wal Jamaah members also heckled Catholic worshippers at Westminster Cathedral in September last year.

In November, Izzadeen was involved in heckling police outside the Old Bailey. A trial had started of one of Ahlus Sunna Wal Jamaah's members, Mizanur Rahman, who had called for deaths of Americans during the February demonstration. Outside the court, a cameraman was physically assaulted, a policeman was punched in the face, and another had his helmet ripped off.

As an official spokesman for the now banned group Al Ghurabaa, Izzadeen was responsible for an article which appeared on its website in February last year, which encouraged the murder of people who "insulted Islam". This article, entitled "Kill those who insult the Prophet Muhammad" can be found here. It explains how Mohammed, founder of Islam, approved the murder of those who insulted or ridiculed him.

The article states: "At the time of the Messenger Muhammad (saw) there were individuals like these who dishonoured and insulted him upon whom the Islamic judgement was executed. Such people were not tolerated in the past and throughout the history of Islam were dealt with according to the Shariah. Ka'ab ibn Ashraf was assassinated by Muhammad ibn Maslamah for harming the Messenger Muhammad (saw) by his words, Abu Raafi' was killed by Abu Ateeq as the Messenger ordered in the most evil of ways for swearing at the prophet, Khalid bin Sufyaan was killed by Abdullah bin Anees who cut off his head and brought it to the prophet for harming the Messenger Muhammad (saw) by his insults, Al-Asmaa bintu Marwaan was killed by Umayr bin Adi' al-Khatmi, a blind man, for writing poetry against the prophet and insulting him in it, Al-Aswad al-Ansi was killed by Fairuz al-Daylami and his family for insulting the Messenger Muhammad (saw) and claiming to be a prophet himself."

"Shortly after these incidents the people began to realise that insulting the Messenger of Allah (saw) was not something to be taken lightly and that by doing so would mean that you would be killed for it, a concept that many have seem to forgotten."

"The insulting of the Messenger Muhammad (saw) is something that the Muslims cannot and will not tolerate and the punishment in Islam for the one who does so is death. This is the sunnah of the prophet and the verdict of Islam upon such people, one that any Muslim is able execute. The response of the Muslims all over the world shows us the inability to deal with such people, the kuffar are attacking our Messenger and are allowed to get away with it whilst the Muslims have no power to do anything about it. The leaders of the Muslim world have no care for the deen of Islam as they are busy cementing their seats content with their power and wealth. Where are the Muhammad ibn Maslamah's of our ummah who will ?"

In 2004 at the Saudi funded Regents Park Mosque, Izzadeen had said that any Muslim who joined the British or American army should "have his head removed." A video of the speech was broadcast last week, after being circulated on an Islamist website for about a year. On Tuesday last week, he claimed to stand by his statement. He told ITV News: "You are asking me today, what is the ruling for anyone joining the British army as a Muslim, they're an apostate. You ask me what's the rules for apostasy. In Islam, apostasy carries capital punishment."

Izzadeen may be seen by some as an extreme, almost caricature figure, but his ideas are those held by a sizable minority of British Muslims. He will eventually face trial, and if convicted he could be sentenced to seven years' jail. But the ideas Izzadeen promotes are not going to go away. Izzadeen may have gained "celebrity status", but in Islamic bookshops and in university Islamic societies across Britain, the same beliefs are still being promoted.

Netherlands: Controversial MP Denounces Koran

wildersMP Geert Wilders is no stranger to controversy. It was following one of his parliamentary questions that the Netherlands introduced its ban on burkas. When Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh was murdered on November 2, 2004 by Islamist Mohamed Bouyeri, a grisly aspect of the killing was a note, pinned to the filmmaker's chest with a knife. In this note, a hit list of critics of Islam was found, including Geert Wilders and Ayaan Hirsi Ali.

Since van Gogh's murder, both Wilders and Hirsi Ali received numerous death threats. Between November 2004 and March 2006 the pair had been the main recipients of 121 death threats.

Like Hirsi Ali, Wilders had been a member of parliament, representing the Liberal Party, or VVD. However, he resigned from the party in late 2004 because of his opposition to Turkey gaining accession to the European Union. Wilders founded his own party, the Party for Freedom (pvdV).

In an interview today with Dutch newspaper De Pers, WIlders has made statements which are bound to inflame some Muslims. He said the Koran contains "plenty of terrible things", states Expatica. Wilders suggested that if Muslims wanted to live in the Netherlands, they should rip out half of the Koran's pages. He claimed that he intended to show that Islam is "the greatest danger threatening us."

Wilders said: "If Mohammed lived here today, I would propose he be tarred and feathered as an extremist and driven out of the country." He also stated: "Everything we are proud of, we are selling to the devil.

UK: Islamist Abu Izzadeen - In His Own Words - Part One

This article appeared in two parts (here and here) earlier in Family Security Matters. Part two will be on Western Resistance tomorrow.

Abu Izzadeen - In His Own Words - Part One

by Adrian Morgan

Abu Izzadeen's Arabic name means "Might of the Faith". He was born on April 18, 1976, in the Mother's Hospital in Lower Clapton Road in Hackney, east London. He was brought up in a Christian family of Jamaican origins, where he had the name Trevor Brooks. In 1994, the day before his 18th birthday, he became a convert to Islam. He changed his first name to "Omar". A trained electrician, he became a radical Muslim after he met Omar Bakri Mohammed at the notorious Finsbury Park Mosque, and joined Bakri's Islamist group Al-Muhajiroun.

Izzadeen has been drawing media attention to himself for some time. A video from 2004 which showed him preaching in Regents' Park Mosque was recently broadcast on British TV. He said: "He who joins the British Army, the American Army, he is a mortal kaffir and his only hukum (punishment) is for his head to be removed. Indeed, whoever changes his deen (Muslim code of life); kill him."

In May, 2006, he told Asharq Alawsat newspaper: "It is haram (religiously prohibited) to join the armies of secular regimes," because "military service under those regimes contradicts Walaa and Baraa (sincere loyalty to Islam)."

On Saturday July 2, 2005, five days before four suicide bombers killed 52 people on London Transport, Izzadeen said to a group of followers that Muslims must "instil terror into the hearts of the kuffar (non-Muslims)." He also said: "I am a terrorist. As a Muslim of course I am a terrorist."

At that time, Izzadeen was a leader in the groups the Saviour Sect and Al-Ghurabaa, whose core memberships were formerly Al-Muhajiroun members. The groups had been established after Al-Muhajiroun had been officially disbanded in October, 2004. Izzadeen said then that he did not wish to die sleeping in bed "like an old woman". He said: "I want to be blown into pieces with my hands in one place and my feet in another."

Izzadeen's open support for killing was first documented in 2001, before the 9/11 attacks, when he was filmed in a park in East Ham, east London. His face was entirely wrapped by a red and white keffiteh (an Arabic headscarf like a tea towel). He said then: "Because I believe America is one of the places where we should be bombing those...er, the Government. There are some Muslims that go to America, because obviously, you know, like firearms is available inside America, to be trained legally. So why not take that opportunity to use, the heart of the enemy that's attacking us."

Izzadeen claimed in July 2005 to have spent seven months in Pakistan and Kashmir. Many members of Al-Muhajiroun had gone abroad to undergo jihad training, and after 9/11, many were assisted to fight coalition forces in Afghanistan. These recruits were aided by Hassan Butt from his base in Lahore, Pakistan. Butt was an Al-Muhajiroun member, who also had contacts with Mohammed Sidique Khan, the leader of the 7/7 cell, and also Mohammed Junaid Babar from Queens, New York, who pleaded guilty to aiding Al Qaeda on June 2, 2004.

After the 7/7 suicide attacks, Izzadeen allowed himself to be filmed by BBC's Newsnight team. The show aired on August 1, 2005. Talking to Richard Watson, Izzadeen played down his experience of jihad training, but his words were chilling enough to be aired by US networks.

He said: "Osama bin Laden, excuse me, Sheikh Osama bin Laden, he offered to the British public, and the European people at large, an offer of ceasefire. He said that if they rose up against their governments, brought their troops home, he promised not to attack them. But unfortunately the stiff upper British lip became hardheaded, and we saw what took place on 7 July."

Izzadeen refused to condemn the 7/7 murders, saying: "I would never denounce Muslims". He described the suicide attacks as "Mujahideen activity".

"Vulnerability, I believe it's a weakness as long as understanding. What would I say about those who do suicide operations - or martyrdom operations - 'cause suicide is a term coined by the media - they're completely praiseworthy. Martyrdom operations are commonplace - fifteen every day in Iraq... Against the British and Americans every day in Afghanistan, all around the world, in Palestine. So it's not something that's unusual. What's shocking, for many, is that it took place on their own doorsteps. But hopefully, that will make many, wake up, and smell the coffee..."

He continued: "I believe many people say you shouldn't negotiate with terrorists. It's a common theme, put in the media. But I'm sure, if you asked those who passed away on the 7th of July, should we negotiate with terr- Osama bin Laden, I'm sure they'd say 'Yes'. To bring their lives back, to save themselves from the burning inferno underground, they would have said, 'Let's negotiate'."

"There's always a clash of civilisations, there's always a clash of ideals. And because Islam is not written by a man, I can't change it. But because democracy's written by a man, they can change it to accommodate the Muslims. I'm born here. I have the right to call for Islam, wherever I am. And that's a problem for the British society and establishment; that the community here, the new generation of Muslims, are born in the UK. We have a British passport, and British citizenship but our allegiance is only to Islam."

When asked where his allegiance lay, with Britain or Islam, Izzadeen responded: "There's no issue of first and second. I have no allegiance to the British queen whatsoever and to the British society - in fact, if I see Mujahadin attack the UK, I always stand on the side of the Muslims - NEVER against the Muslims... Never! Even if my own family was to be suffered (sic) inside attacks, because we always stand with the Muslims, regardless of the consequences."

He said: "If the British public don't like Shariah, it's going to be over their noses, whether they like it or not. It's going to be over Tony Blair's nose and George Bush's nose as well - and for your information - the British government knows that. That's why they're so terrified of Islamists. I don't believe in freedom. Because freedom's an absolute term. And your freedom encroaches on my freedom. We don't believe in freedom as Muslims. We believe we are, and every action is, restricted with the Shariah rules...."

When Richard Watson said that he himself did not want to live under Sharia law, Izzadeen quipped: "You don't want to live in a Shariah? Well, when it comes, I'm sure you'll change your mind!" Then he laughed.

A segment of footage which had been taken in the lead-up to the general election of May 5, 2005 was aired by Newsnight. During this election, the leftist carpet-bagger George Galloway was standing as the Respect Party's candidate for the constituency of Bethnal Green and Bow. Even though Galloway later won the election, relying upon the "Muslim vote", members of Izzadeen's Saviour Sect challenged him. Izzadeen is heard saying: "We're going to follow you. We're going to follow you George. Hey! Georgy Boy! You're frightened. You're a frightened man! I thought you was a champion! You're a coward!"

The BBC refused to hand over its footage to the Metropolitan Police. The Crown Prosecution service was debating whether to prosecute Izzadeen and another man shown on the film (Abu Uzair), on the grounds of incitement to treason, solicitation of murder and incitement to withhold information known to be of use to police.

Lord Goldsmith, the Attorney General, and Kenneth Macdonald, the Director of Public Prosecutions had a meeting in early August, to discuss the possibilities of prosecuting Uzair, Izzadeen and Omar Bakri Mohammed. Though awaiting an angioplasty operation, Bakri fled the country, and was subsequently barred from re-entry. Izzadeen and Uzair, both born in Britain, could have been prosecuted under the Treason Act of 1351, but no charges were brought. Under this law, an individual is found guilty if he or she had failed in a "duty of allegiance to the British Crown".

The Saviour Sect changed its name to the Saved Sect after the Newsnight broadcast and an exposé by the Sunday Times. They continued to denounce George Galloway and even issued a fatwa against soccer. Perhaps bolstered by the knowledge that he had escaped prosecution, Izzadeen continued to preach hatred and treason.

IZZADEEN.gif

On Sunday June 2, 2006, five days before the anniversary of 7/7, Izzadeen appeared at a community center in Small Heath, Birmingham. He described the 9/11 tragedy with contempt. He said that the attack upon the World Trade Center "changed many people's lives... Especially those inside." Birmingham City Council owned the center, and launched an investigation into why he was allowed to lecture on its premises.

The video of the speech can be found here. Izzadeen's Hackney accent in the speech is not easy to follow - it speeds up in parts, and is made worse by his attempts at grandiloquence. I have made a transcript. Even though I lived in Hackney for 20 years, I still could not decipher some words. The speech runs thus: "Mr Mohammed Sidique Khan left us a will, saying exactly why he took these operations up. He said 'Until we feel security, you will be our targets." And you - the journalists - you will be the targets. Yeah... and you the journalists - you will be the targets. Are you prepared to die? No you're not. Because you're cowards. You like life."

"I'm quite firm on this issue. Because I remember there was one Japanese, or South Korean, he came to Iraq, and when he was captured by the 'terrorists' - we don't support terrorism - what did he say? Did he have a stiff upper lip? Was he praying? He said (Izzadeen's voice imitates a whining child) "I don't want to die". (The audience laughs). Do you remember that? It was a very heart-wrenching time. Until you saw the bombings, the gassing, imprisonment and torture, of my people. My people - what does that mean? It's all about the global mentality. Someone who believes 'I'm a Muslim' first, last. I know as timely apportions (?), there have been many epitaphs, speeches and sermons, and then your archbishop of somewhere-or-other's going to come out and say 'Yeah, vote for peace around the world, blah, blah, blah.' But I think it's time to read Mohammed Sidique Khan's will, you'll see the answer to our problems."

"Because these people are making clear statements. 'If you stop, you'll be saved. If you don't stop, we're going to kill you - indiscriminately.' We're talking about people who like to die, the way you like to live. Do you know what that means? For the journalists especially. Friday night, and you've been working the whole week, and you're going to be spending all your money on the booze - Friday night is a poofs' night out. Kuffar go out on a Friday - they go to the pubs, they go to clubs, they drink, they vomit, they lose all their sanity, that's their life. And you love that!"

"They're like the animals, (he says something in Arabic) but they're worse! An animal never does that. Only kuffar do that. And, of course, we must declare, that we do not support terrorism. I don't support terrorism. I condemn the terrorism of the British government. I condemn the terrorism of the USA! Every single day, the biggest terrorist in the world is George W. Bush, and his sidekick haman (bath attendant) Tony Blair. I say (he says something in Arabic) I curse them. That's right."

"Bin Laden - he offered, before 7/7, by a few months - he made a statement where he offered to the European public - he never (made it) just (to) the governments - of sua, or gunda excuse me - the offer (of) gunda - the 'truce'. He offered to you, Madam, non-Muslim, and you sir, non-Muslim, and offered to you... The rest of us are Muslims so he knows what we want anyway - he gave it to you... Offer.. of.. truce. And did you respond, Madam? Did you respond sir? No. Therefore you're to blame as well."
