Undisguised totalitarianism

The EU is not even trying to hide their intentions anymore. Every resolution in this draft report is designed to control nearly all aspects of the media.

Hat tip to Sam of dodgy business who highlights the portions that are of particular interest to bloggers:

(...) Whereas weblogs are an increasingly common medium for self-expression by media professionals as well as private persons, the status of their authors and publishers, including their legal status, is neither determined nor made clear to the readers of the weblogs, causing uncertainties regarding impartiality, reliability, source protection, applicability of ethical codes and the assignment of liability in the event of lawsuits, (...)

[The European Parliament] suggests clarifying the status, legal or otherwise, of weblogs and encourages their voluntary labelling according to the professional and financial responsibilities and interests of their authors and publishers; (...)

The whole PDF report should be read to get an idea of what the EUSSR has in mind for its participants. I hope the Euro bloggers are looking for a server in the United States to host their blogs and are planning their escape route in case speaking your mind becomes too costly and dangerous.

These people are fascists to the core without a doubt. Evil incarnate.

It wont make a blind bit of difference if you get onto a server in the good old U.S.A. because under the new legislation proposed for combating racism and xenophobia in the E.U. you will be liable it depends on where you blogg from if you are in the U.K. then they will get you any way. The punishment is Draconian if you are convicted in one of the kangaroo courts you can get up to I think 7 years in prison they can bankrupt you ban you from practicing you profession and refuse you social welfare. Any Yanks reading this should also be aware that if you are hosted on a server in Europe you can be arrested if you offend the powers that be and decide to take a nice holiday in Europe. By the way they get to decide what is racism and xenophobic and you know what that means it doesn't conform to there version of reality
