Germany: Three "Dirty Bomb" Islamists Jailed

In December 2005, three Muslims were indicted. Two were charged by the Federal Prosecutor's Office in Karlsruhe as belonging to Al Qaeda, and another was charged with supporting a terrorist group.

The men were two Palestinian brothers - then 32 year old Yasser Abu-S and 29 year old Ismail Abu-S - and a Syrian national who lived in Mainz - Ibrahim Mohamed K. The latter individual was said to have unsuccessfully tried to purchase radioactive material to make a radiological dispersion device (RDD or "dirty bomb"). He had been in contact with bin Laden and had fought US troops in Afghanistan from 2001 to 2002.

The conclusion of the trial came this week on Wednesday in Dusseldorf, after continuing for 18 months. According to Expatica, most of the evidence presented in the trial was gathered from police phone surveillance.

"Stateless Palestinian" Ismail Abu-S, now aged 30, was given a 42-month jail sentence for supporting a terrorist organization.

His elder brother Yasser and the Syrian Ibrahim Mohamed K were both found guilty of belonging to a foreign terrorist organization (Al Qaeda). Mohamed K was given a seven year jail term and Yasser Abu-S was given a six year jail sentence.

The three had first been arrested in January 2005. They had planned to use an insurance scam to gain finances for Al Qaeda, in which one of the three was to have been declared "dead" in an accident in Egypt to claim money.

Ibrahim Mohamed K had tried to purchase radioactive material in more than one country, but could find no seller. He and Yasser Abu-S had been willing to become suicide bombers and had encouraged others to do the same.

Comments

I note there are few comments on this site.

However, it must be one of the most important sites currently on the web, so I assume it is widely read.

I do hope so. I read it every day and consider the depth of research in a class of its own.

Paul

There have never been many comments here. When I made my first comment about a year ago, I had never previously even seen one, and even said so - in a comment.

This is the first anti-jihad site I ever encountered when I initially got a computer a little under two years ago. I consider it to be the best for in-depth research and, most especially, background information.

I too assume it is widely read.

I would be very surprised if this site isn't read by every security service in the world.

Any such service that doesn't read this site is remiss in its duties.

Also suspect much of the info here is supplied by said services.

I don't KNOW these things, I just suspect them based on the quality of the output here.

1,529,401 visitors since Oct 6th.

Works out at about 3/4 million per month.

Seems our assumptions are correct.

Yeah, I rarely set eyes on comments, but I read this site quite a bit. When I made my blog a few months ago, this was of the first sites I thought to include in my blogroll, along with Gatesofvienna. Westernresistance is a real treasure.

(and howdy, Sir HM)

3-4 million per month! excellent.

I will remain quiet from now on and just read the gems.

I occasionally post here, but read it far more often without posting.

It's a very good site.

Sorry Paul. My error in formatting there - it's supposed to read three-quarters (3/4) of a million per month. Still one hell of an impressive figure.

Hi KaffCan. I see you around here and there. I don't comment anywwhere as much as I used to. Do more in the real world now, so don't have so much time.

Yes, this is indeed a great site. Back in May or June I gave them the 'Thinking Blogger Award'. I'm sure other bloggers have given them the Award as well. 750,000 +/- visits a month is mind-boggling and very humbling. WR, please keep up the good work, and be careful out there.

Oops, our bad, clicking their sitemeter button at the bottom of their page you'll see that in the last 12 months they have ranged from over 38,000 to over 58,000 per month. Still pretty darn popular, for good reason. Let's tell our friends to check it out.
