Europe: Iraqi Christians Caught in Legal Limbo

This story underscores the blinders ideology puts on decision-makers, in this case European bureaucrats and politicians. According to the story, Western governments are wary of letting a "never-ending stream" of refugees into their countries. That is a perfectly reasonable fear. But the issue here is whether to offer help to Christians who are being persecuted in Iraq. The unspoken fear is that, if they help the Christians and ignore the Muslims, they'll have to contend with accussations of "discrimination", "Islamophobia", and even "racism." Many are caught in a legal limbo. With the notable exception of Sweden, Western governments wary of letting in a seemingly never-ending stream of refugees from various countries are not prepared to accept large numbers of Iraqis. But the Christians say returning to Iraq is tantamount to a death sentence.

"People are being ping-ponged around Europe all the time, and more and more are being detained," said Judith Kumin, the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees' regional representative in Brussels.[...]

Actually Rice and the State Dept. DISCRIMINATE AGAINST CHRISTIANS and let in Muslims. Rice has agreed to take in 10,000 Palestinians stuck in Iraq as asylum refugees who will get citizenship and aid. Yet, she has done nothing for the Christians. That is how upside down and inept the US State dept. is. Thanks Clueless Condi.
