UK: Enviromentalists Hate* the Little Children
It is sad this needs any explanation, but here it goes:
Take group A; let's call them Enviromentalists.
Take group B; let's call them, er, "Martians".
Groups A and B live in the same space--say, England.
If Enviromentalists decide to have fewer children to "save the planet", the only thing they'll accomplish is to reduce the number of future Enviromentalists. It will be the "Martians" who'll decide the future. It is thus counterproductive, even for the stated goals of enviromentalists.
The only way that child reduction can work is through the use of force--if not, any group that resists the tendency will inherit the earth.
The story: Having large families 'is an eco-crime'
HAVING large families should be frowned upon as an environmental misdemeanour in the same way as frequent long-haul flights, driving a 4x4 car and failing to reuse plastic bags, according to a report to be published tomorrow by a green think tank.The paper by the Optimum Population Trust (OPT) will say that if couples had two children instead of three they could cut their family's carbon dioxide output by the equivalent of 620 return flights a year between London and New York.
John Guillebaud, co-chairman of OPT and emeritus professor of family planning at University College London, said: "The effect on the planet of having one child less is an order of magnitude greater than all these other things we might do, such as switching off lights. An extra child is the equivalent of a lot of flights across the planet."
"The greatest thing anyone in Britain could do to help the future of the planet would be to have one less child."[...]
* And yes, it may strike some readers as unfair the use of the word 'hate'. Their hatred is not personal--I suspect, in fact, these enviromentalists smile to and cuddle little children as much as the next guy or gal--their hatred is political.

NOW BE HONEST - don't you wish the parents of said Guillebaudhad felt this way? Maybe, we could just FLY LESS? Incredibly painful to give up that vacation in Bermuda or something? those of us lucky enough to spend a week vaction and tankful or two of gas to travel on really don't have any sympathy for elites like college professors who can fly around the world for conventions and lecture tours.
