Denmark: Muslim Cartoon Cleric Laban Is Dead

labanThe 60-year old Palestinian-born imam Ahmed Abdel Rahman Abu Laban has died. Laban was notorious for sending a delegation to the Middle East, to whip up hatred over the cartoons of Mohammed, founder of Islam. The images, published originally by Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten in September 2005, had caused little reaction in Denmark or elsewhere.

Laban ensured that three fake images were added to a dossier which was sent to leading Muslim figures in the Middle East. The extra pictures showed one "cartoon" which Laban and his accomplices claimed represented a drawing of "Prophet Mohammed as a pig". In fact, this was a photocopy of a photograph of the winning contestant in a French "pig-squealing" competition, who was wearing a porcine plastic face mask. His accomplice in this was the Lebanese-born Ahmed Akkiri. As a direct result of Laban's conniving, the Muslim world erupted with violence, from Indonesia to Palestine, from Pakistan to Nigeria. At least 30 people died in the cartoon riots.

As a result of Laban's treachery, in February 2006, Denmark's Integration Minister, Rikke Hvilshoj, said in parliament: "I think we have a clear picture today that it's not the imams we should be placing our trust in if we want integration in Denmark to work." Anders Fogh Rasmussen, the prime minister, said of Laban's delegates who went to the Middle East that they practice "double speak", telling Midle Eastern leaders to mount a boycott of Danish goods, and then claiming they opposed the boycott. Rasmussen said: "Some people are speaking with two tongues. The Government watches the news circulated in Arabic countries very carefully so we can catch these false stories and correct them immediately

Laban had been the imam at a small "Waqfs" mosque in Copenhagen's Noerrebro district. Several young followers from the mosque were arrested in November 2005, suspected of plotting to mount a major terror attack on a European target. Four of these young Muslims, Abdul Basit Abu-Lifa, Elias Ibn Hsain, Imad Ali Jaloud and Adnan Avdic, began their trial in Denmark in December.

In January 2006, Laban had condemned Dutch film-maker Theo van Gogh, whose supposed "lack of respect" for Islam led to him being murdered in an Amsterdam street on November 2, 2004 by Mohamed Bouyeri. Laban said to his congregation during Friday prayers: "Why is Islam not respected? Why on earth should Theo van Gogh provoke Muslims to the extreme?"

Laban was not a pleasant man, and deserves no eulogies from Western Resistance. A French-Algerian journalist, Mohammed Sifaoui, had filmed Laban and his violent sidekick Ahmed Akkiri, joking about suicide bombings. Sifaoui also captured hidden camera footage of Laban and Akkari and veiled death threats. Laban was also caught on film saying that he knew of an individual who was willing to conduct a suicide bombing. When chalenged later about this statement, Laban claimed that if he had heard such a claim, he would "use my fist to knock his teeth out."

Mohammed Sifaoui said: "I have never stated that Abu Laban or Ahmed Akkari are terrorists in the sense that they are bombers themselves. They are something far worse: They are the ideologues who give young lunatics the necessary excuse for carrying out an act of terrorism in Denmark."

According to the Los Angeles Times and the Press Telegram, Abu Laban died of lung cancer on Thursday night at Hvidovre Hospital in Copenhagen. The news was announced by the Islamic Faith Community.

Laban died age 60? What a good sign for the future of the west that a pig like that didn't last beyond middle-age. Something good must be happening. My (western) father-in-law died last year aged 95).
