US: Oklahoma Mosque Members Support Al Qaeda

JamalMiftah.jpgNews from Oklahoma, in the form of a video from News 9. Jamal Miftah (pictured) is a recent migrant to the United States. He wrote a letter to the Tulsa World newspaper after seeing a video by Ayman al-Zawahiri, the second in command of Al Qaeda.

His letter, entitled "Message of Islam is not jihad, fatwahs" was published in Tulsa World on October 29. In this letter, which we reproduce below, he stated that Zawahri and bin Laden were cowards, getting young and ignorant men to become suicide bombers to kill innocent civilians.

His letter was impassioned, but it was well-intentioned. He said that Muslims throughout the world should stand up to those who advocate jihad, and to decry such behavior as being against Islam. But the letter caused only recriminations at his mosque, the Islamic Center at Tulsa.

He was threatened by several members. He protested, and then was told by the management of the mosque that he cannot return until he has apologized.

Miftah was told by members of the congregation that he should never have criticized Islam in front of non-Muslims. The thing is - he did not criticize Islam, only the radicals who preach jihad. It is a sad testimony to the fact that many Muslims in the West make no distinction between Al Qaeda and Islam. There is a concept in Islam called takfeer, which is the action of condemning a Muslim as a heretic.

Takfeer is a Muslim "crime" if not made by a senior cleric. Islam is a club which welcomes any members into the Ummah, no matter how despotic or murderous they may be. If a person has said the Shahada, they are a Muslim. If they have killed non-Muslims, or even Muslims, they are still regarded as pat of the Ummah.

This bizarre reasoning was brought home to me on an internet forum, when Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the butcher of Baghdad, was killed in June. Several Muslims who had early said that Islam is peaceful refused to condemn Zarqawi for the obvious monster that he was. The victims whose heads he slowly sawed off, as they gurgled their last breaths through torrents of blood spurting from their throats, were non-Muslim and Muslim alike. Yet, for the Muslims on the forum, Zarqawi was a Muslim. Worse - he was a "good Muslim" even if he had killed other Muslims.

I pressed these apologists further, and reasoned that what Zarqawi did was wrong, even if he did it thinking he was doing it for Allah. Eventually, one of these individuals admitted Zarqawi had done monstrous things. I was told of takfeer and how they feared to criticize any Muslim, lest on Judgement Day they received punishment for denouncing another Muslim as bad.

Sadly, this blinded mentality is what is destroying the credibility of Islam in the eyes of any rational being. People who claim to be Muslim, people who claim to live in the West as "peaceful citizens" may condemn acts of terrorism. But press these individuals further - ask them if they condemn the perpetrators of terrorism by name, and you will be met with obfuscation or a stony silence. How many Muslims have carried placards denouncing Osama bin Laden? Very few. Those who denounce the actions of Al Qaeda will never name the individuals who commit Al Qaeda atrocities, such as Mohammed Atta, or others, as "bad Muslims".

This is a fundamental problem with logic. I suggest you try it. Next time you engage in a discussion with a Muslim who claims to denounce terrorism, name a specific Muslim terrorist, and see if the denouncer of terrorist acts has the moral fiber to denounce that named terrorist. I assure you, you will find the answers surprising.

This is the letter that Jamal Miftah sent to the Tulsa World:

Message of Islam is not jihad, fatwahs

By Jamal Miftah.

I moved to the United States in March 2003, with my four kids and wife from Pakistan bordering Afghanistan. There was a call by a local jihadi organization to fight the coalition forces in Afghanistan. One of my dearest friends, Mirza Kohistani, fell prey to that call and joined the group, despite my advice and that of his wife to him.

All the leaders of that organization returned safely after the fall of the Taliban empire, but they left behind the body of my friend and hundreds of other innocent people like him.

I am obliged to respond to Ayman al-Zawahri's recent video message, portraying himself as champion of Islam and others as liars.

My message to Ayman al-Zawahri and Muslims of the world: "Islam" means submission and is derived from a word meaning "peace." Islam, Christianity and Judaism have the same origin, the Prophet Abraham. The prophet of Islam has said that God has no mercy on someone who does not have mercy for others.

I ask that al-Zawahri look at his deeds and those of his master, Osama bin Laden, and other so-called Islamic jihadists.

Because of lack of knowledge of Islam, Muslim youth are misguided into believing by the so-called champions of the cause of Islam that the current spate of killings and barbarism, which has no equal in the recent civilized history, is jihad in the name of Islam. They are incited, in the name of Islam, to commit heinous crimes not pardonable by any religion and strictly forbidden in Islam.

Cowards like al-Zawahri and bin Laden are inciting the ignorant and innocent youths to commit suicide bombings to kill innocent civilians including children, women and the elderly, while they hide in spider holes and caves. They never send their own sons and daughters, born out of half a dozen of their wives, to get killed in the name of Islam. They are themselves hypo crites, cowards, thugs and liars. For 12 years they misappropriated aid received from the U.S. and the West to fight Russia. Now they are ensuring smooth flow of petro dollars from Arab countries in the name of jihad against the West.

Even mosques and Islamic institutions in the U.S. and around the world have become tools in their hands and are used for collecting funds for their criminal acts. Half of the funds collected go into the pockets of their local agents and the rest are sent to these thugs.

They are the reason for branding the peaceful religion of Islam as terrorism. The result, therefore, is in the form of Danish cartoons and remarks/reference by the Pope.

I appeal to the Muslim youth in particular and Muslims of the world in general to rise up and start jihad against the killers of humanity and help the civilized world to bring these culprits to justice and prove that Islam is not a religion of hatred and aggression.

I appeal to the Muslim clerics around the world that, rather than issuing empty fatwas condemning suicide bombing, they should issue a fatwa for the death of such scoundrels and barbarians who have taken more than 4,267 lives of innocent people in the name of Islam and have carried out more than 24 terrorist attacks on civilian installations throughout the world. This does not include the chilling number of deaths because of such activities in Iraq and Afghanistan, which is well over 250,000.

I appeal to al-Zawahri and his band of thugs to hand themselves over to justice and stop spreading evil and killing innocent humans around the world in the name of Islam. Their time is limited and Muslims of the world will soon rise against them to apprehend them and bring them to justice.

Giraldus,

Wow! That was a great article!

So, this "takfeer" is the "fear" that keeps them from publicly denouncing terrorists...

I always wondered why it was that they aren't afraid to die, yet they supposedly are afraid of being killed for speaking out against terrorists. Now I know, they are in fear of having their souls eternally damned!

Just amazing... Wow! what an epiphany...

So, I suppose the reason other Clerics don't denounce other radical Clerics is because they must belong to some "boys club" that discourages condemning other Clerics... Which, leads to their congregation not having any authority to speak out publicly...

I am a Muslim and I openly condemn terrorists such as Zarqawi. Any Muslim that fails to condemn Zarqawi, and people who use the same methods, has shirked their Islamic responsibility to uphold justice and righteousness. It is evident that Zarqawi's methods were neither just nor righteous.

Now, whether Zarqawi and his kind are Muslim or not is probably not my call, and that is the basis for takfeer. A Muslim should not declare that another Muslim is non-Muslim out of fear that they may condemn someone unjustly (although I believe this declaration can be made in the case of someone like Zarqawi).

But that's where the importance of takfeer ends. Takfeer or denouncing Zarqawi have nothing to do with his actions which are what really need to be judged. Whether Zarqawi and his kind are judged non-Muslim or not is unimportant. He can be denounced, condemned, and fought against simply on the basis of his being a murderer, and no Muslim should fear doing that.

By the way, I highly recommend a book on the topic of terrorism perpetrated by self-proclaimed Muslims called "Murder in the Name of Allah" by Mirza Tahir Ahmad (no relation). It can be found used on Amazon.com or new on http://store.alislam.org/. In fact, it can even be found online in its entirety in the library section of www.alislam.org.

I should also add one more thing:

Muslims who fear declaring takfir against Zarqawi et al should compare that fear against the fear of acknowledging him to be a murderer. Murder is denounced in the Quran whereas takfir was a concept invented by jurists at a later date.

At the end of the day, making a declaration to be Muslim is no protection against prosecution for crimes committed, nor against denunciation for committing those crimes.

Interesting observations, Sohail

Thank you.

Well unfortunately Mr. Jamal Miftah is the one who has Islam wrong.

Reading the articles here leads one to a simple conclusion as I see it. Namely, that it is time to outlaw Islam as a permissible religion in all western countries. If the Islamic believers will not stand up to their nutcases, then there is no way to bring these terrorists to a halt. Starting to outlaw the religion, remove all mosques, and not letting anyone immigrate to our countries that is a practicing muslim should get their attention. It should be an instant deportation for espousing support for, or contributing to the so called cause of terror. If they do not like the west, send them packing smartly. Hopefully the majority still rules in the west?

Guyz, its time for some facts,,, the past of Mr. Riaz "The Great Fraud"
In Pakistan, childhood of Riaz and his siblings was full of disasters and they were grown up in a disturbing environment. Riaz never went to school, his friends were the most pathetic people of the town and living in such company, he became a drug addict and was known as a bastard in his town. He has been a fag all his life, used to let other guyz have him for a night only for a few bucks.. Due to this looser, his father always remain disturbed and kept cursing his wife for giving birth to such a scumbag and he also became a drug addict and was a famous gambler of the city Peshawar. His father brought him to USA and left him here to study but this looser spent all his money in nude clubs and drugs. He lived illegally in USA for many years after his study visa expired and never visited his family in Pakistan even on the death of his father, his sister and other relatives. Finally he successfully conned an American girl to marry him and get him a Green card. Poor woman has never been to Pakistan.
This looser was caught at Chicago Air port smuggling guns from Tulsa. He is a drunkard and has been caught during nights at innocent girls? doors many times.
His uncles in Pakistan are notorious drug and weapon smugglers and are the partners of the great drug smuggler Ayub Afridi.
In fact Riaz Noor is a looser and will be a looser.

Hi guys -

An awful lot of allegations are being made here. In no way can I judge who is right or wrong. But I have found out that "Riaz Noor" posted the same comment at "In the Bullpen":

http://www.inthebullpen.com/archives/5766

And Alex made very similar postings in response to Mr Noor's comments.

I only write articles based on what can be verified, and my own personal experience. I cannot take sides with either Riaz Noor nor Alex here, as it is all unverifiable information as far as I am concerned.

All I can do here is to state that Western Resistance can not be held legally responsible for comments expressed by those who post here in the "Comments" section.

I would rather such damaging allegations from both parties were not made unless there was some proof.

I do not like to censor what gets posted by our commenters, and I only ban commenters who are trolls.

If such allegations are to continue on this thread, please guys - try to provide a few links.

Otherwise, to any reader here, it is merely one person's word against that of another.

Thanks, and best wishes to both of you and Happy New Year.

hello everyone, especially Giraldus, i totally agree with u that there are alot of and no one here has been convincing enough and we need some solid arguments atleast, if not evidences to have our points proved...
this argument has also been running on youtube and some other sites, and since Riaz Noor had some serious allegations to make i.e. of a murder and fraud, i became curious and asked him a few questions which he failed to answer..
the same comments were made my riaz on youtube and all it seemed to me was a perfect example of argumentum ad hominem, when mr riaz couldnt logically rebut views of jamal, he started his character assasination, as if he too is one of the people infuriated with jamal's article but cudnt rationally prove him wrong..
anyways, i asked riaz a few questions which he failed to answer and i, once again, will ask him the same questions here..
riaz if u have such a large allegation to make i.e. of murder, why did u not inform authorities, and if u have done so, why have u not been able to prove ur point either here in US or even in Pakistan yet? And won't it be a better idea to let the authorities do their job instead of using cheap tactics like these? It only seems as if all you want is to provoke Jamal for violence and you could file a stronger case against him..
These are the VERY FIRST questions I asked riaz and he couldnt asnwer a single one of them, instead, he started deleting my comments. I even asked told riaz that he will have my complete support if he could convince me he is true, again he deleted my posts saying that I am Jamal and am posting these comments, I should be a man and come in front..
Now i leave it for you guyz to decide, i dont know whether alex is true or not, but since Riaz started allegation first, burden of proof lies on him, and will have to provide arguments that make a little sense atleast..

Hello Riaz

If you have allegations to make about Jamal Miftah, take them to the US police or immigration services.

My name is Cambrensis - by calling me "Cambrensisare" it seems you are trying to play on words to indicate that I am a "commisar", and testing my authority.

I prefer to write articles and not to step into disputes. You have made your allegations here, after I had warned that such allegations need documentation.

Any further comments of this nature and I will summarily ban you. I can also delete all your comments, so I suggest you desist now, while you are ahead.

Well this is Jamal Miftah

It is very sad to see the kind of commentaries, allegations and slurs going on some of blogs by Riaz Noor (or someone claiming to be Riaz Noor) and another person claiming to be Alex. I feel now is the time for some clarifications and facts.

First, about the allegations leveled by Alex, about Riaz’s father and sister;

I have known his father, who died in early 80’s because of kidney failure, for many years and so far as I know he was a real gentleman, not an addict and respected in society.

As regards his sister, who died in 1987 because of suicide, I would like to add that she was a pious girl and it is deplorable that this guy is suggesting an extra matrimonial affair for her.

To me it appears to be an effort by some one to spice up the issue. Mr. Riaz (or some one claiming to be Riaz) is accusing me for calling him names or for making these allegations. The electronic address of the source for such accusations can be easily detected by comparing it with my address and the blogger can probably detect these and in all fairness should report those.

This is the first time ever that I am commenting in blog on any of the allegations leveled by any party.

I moved to USA in 2003 along with my wife and four kids. I am a legal resident here along with my wife and four kids.

The petition for my green card was filed by my sister, who is an American citizen, in Pakistan six month after my marriage and which was much later then the tragic death of Riaz’s sister (as per his claim she died in May of 1987). The claim of using his sister’s identity by my wife is thus farce.

If the person accusing me of killing his sister 20 years from now is Riaz Noor and is genuine in his claim, then why he choose to wait so long to make this claim?

Why he has been inviting me (the killer of his sister, as per his claim) and my family to his place for dinners on several occasions since my arrival in US in March of 2003?

The fact of the matter is that at the time when his sister attempted suicide, his other sister (Shahida) was there along with others. They took her to Jinnah Hospital in Karachi and after struggling with life for more then 10 hours and two major surgeries to save her life; she died on the night of May 21, 1987 (which can be verified from Hospital record).

So he knows how his sister died and that’s why never challenged her suicide before.

Now let me put forth some other facts:

- The person he is referring to as the one who gave statement three years ago about killing of his sister is in fact the one who was tried by Accountability Bureau in Pakistan on several cases of corruption and in one of the corruption cases that he was tried, I was a Prosecution witness (state witness) and he got convicted in that case.

- Of his total attendance to the mosque in Tulsa in last three years, 90% of Riaz’s attendance has been witnessed by some of the regular mosque goers after October 29th, 2006. Why a sudden surge for love of mosque after publishing of my article.

Now if it is really Riaz Noor writing these comments and notes;

- Then is he trying to sell his sister’s death to some vested interests
- Or is he trying to side track the main issue, the abnormal reaction to an Anti Al Qaida article by Tulsa Mosque leadership, which leads every one into believing that apparently the mosque leadership (or a major part of mosque leader ship) has sympathies for Al Qaida or is an Al Qaida Sleeper Cell.
- Or he is himself an Al Qaida sympathizer or may be part of the sleeper cell.

I may add here that post 9/11, American immigration and FBI are more vigilant and it is too foolish an assertion that they can be fooled by a news paper article. Facts speak for themselves and they have the facts.

Probably after failure in his earlier conspiracies for exploiting commonalities in portion of names, he (or somebody who may have the knowledge or with whose connivance those false complaints were made) has started another campaign for reasons elaborated in the earlier paragraph.

I will not be making any comments further then this, as I intend to take legal action against Tulsa mosque leadership and also the ones who are trying to malign my reputation and am confident that the truth will prevail.

Your comments are welcome, Jamal

Thank you for responding. And your email is what it purports to be, so I am assuming you are the real Jamal Miftah.

I will not allow any more comments to be made from the individual purporting to be Riaz Noor.

But judging by the seriousness of the slander being made against you, if you wish to pursue this matter legally, contact us.
