US: CAIR Cans Car Jihad Ad

On September 24 we mentioned that CAIR had taken offense at a radio commercial from a car dealership in Columbus, Ohio. Keith Dennis had a promotion for his company Dennis Mitsubishi which claimed that dealers in burkas would sell cars that could "comfortably seat 12 jihadists in the back". The buy line for the promotion was "A jihad on the automotive market".

The burka-wearing reps would be seen on "Fatwa Fridays", when free swords would be offered to children.

As advertising sales pitches go, it was original, tongue-in-cheek and fun. But the sour Hamas-loving pro-jihadists at CAIR were not amused, even though if they used words like "jihad" in their own press releases they would be more honest.

Asma Mobin-Uddin, leader of the Columbus chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) said the promotion was "disrespectful". He claimed: "Using that as a promotional pitch when so many are dying from the criminal activity of suicide bombers, that's not funny."

Neither is it funny that CAIR was founded using funds from the Holy Land Foundation, an organization which is designated as a terrorist entity by the US Treasury. It also received funds in 1999 from the Saudi-based Islamic Development Bank (IDB) which manages funds for Al-Quds, who pay subsidize families of Palestinian suicide bombers.

A CAIR fundraiser, Rabih Hadid, also founded the Global Relief Foundation which was designated as a financier of terror by the US Treasury Department.

Randall Todd "Ismail" Royer had been CAIR's "Communications Specialist" and "Civil Rights Coordinator." He pleaded guilty on terrorism charges on January 16, 2004. Nihad Awad, a senior representative of CAIR has pledged his support for the terrorist group Hamas, which has mounted hundreds of bombings against Israel.

Perhaps CAIR should accept that Keith Dennis was breaching Muslim copyright, and "jihad" is a term that only Muslims can use.

Sadly, Keith Dennis has decided to buckle under the pressure of CAIR, states Reuters, Mail & Guardian, USA Today, Newsbusters and Associated Press via Washington Post.

Dennis Mitsubishi has issued an apology and promised not to run the commercial. Mr Dennis said that the promotion "was simply an attempt at humor that fell short. A large number of people have contacted us. Lots of them have seen the humor we were trying to convey, but far too many were clearly bothered by it. I wish to offer my sincere apology to anyone who was offended. We do not wish to alienate anyone in our community - all of whom are potential customers."

Adnan Mirza said: "We appreciate the dealership's constructive reaction to feedback about the proposed advertisements. We accept the apology from Mr. Dennis and hope that it and the decision not to air the spots will bring this incident to a close."

CAIR gloated about its victory on Newswire.

The poor unconscious ! How could he make fun of peaceful jihadists ?

I remains me of other advertisment campaigns :

- when Benetton made campaigns based upon human desperation : as far as I know, Benetton has never apologized to the AIDS victims for his far more offensive "HIV positive" campaign, nor did they apologize for the sacking of hundreds of gauchos in their properties in Argentina...

- when Citroen made an extensive campaign "Revolutionnaire", with the exception of one press article I have read, complaining that they gave a positive role to the biggest murderers of the twentieth century, i.e. Lenin, Stalin and Mao Ze Dung, it hardly raised a protest, and Citroen continued its extensive campaign during more than one year !

For the fun, read this excellent cartoon of Gilbert Shelton, in which the sales manager of a big carmaker is surprised to receive the visit of FBI agents because of the name of his new car : Canabis ! :)

The late Rodinson, a great specialist of Islam, said shortly before his death that muslims were constantly accumulating gaffe after gaffe when dealing with the West.

I agree with him, and I think that it is our great chance ! These kind of protest is exactly what is needed to open the eyes of some normal citizens towards real Islam.
