Maldives: President Uses Start of Ramadan to Attack Pope

maldivesmap.gif
Even in the most obscure corners of the Islamic world, Pope hatred and disinformation carry the day: Gayoom Accuses Pope Of Spreading 'Derisive' Messages

President Gayoom used the start of Ramazan to join with criticism against Pope Benedict XVI.

In a speech at the Islamic Centre at the weekend, Gayoom directly confronted the Pope's quoting of a Byzantine Emperor's denunciation of Islam as a religion spread 'by the sword' which 'offered nothing new' to the world.

Pope Benedict XVI claims he was not endorsing Manuel II Paleologus's words, only raising them as a way of discussing historical misunderstandings between faiths.

One of the ironies of this episode is that, at the time of the writing, Manuel II Palologus was defending his Kingdom as best he could from the Islamic onslaught, in an attempt to stop the spreading of Islam by the sword.

Gayoom stressed that Islam was a religion of friendliness and compassion. He said that 'some Christians' were using centuries-old dialogues as a way of spreading messages 'derisive' of Islam.[...]

This is a new one: Islam, religion of friendliness and compassion. Like, you know, Muhammad killing all the poets of Mecca after the conquest. (They had made fun of him you see.) It is remarkable how deluded Muslims are. And that's assuming they are not plain lying.

Is it just me, or it is odd that President Gayoom lives on Male? Has Queer Eye heard of this yet?

Have any of these Islamic idiots that open their mouths about the Pope's supposed "insult" to their prophet, read the Pope's address?*

If they had, they would have found that its intent was not to knock the Propagation of the Faith via Islamic methods but a discussion of Faith and Reason that Benedict XVI dealt with. If in the comparison between faith without reason and faith with reason, they feel they end up on the irrational end of the stick--well--if the glove fits . . . you-all know the rest (mixed metahphors and all)

Seymour Paine;

Hey, at least he's the President, not a Judge. Because otherwise his court would sit on Male....

Okay, I'll crawl slowly away now.
