Netherlands: Riots In Amsterdam After Muslim Is Stabbed
Expatica and ANP report that last night there were riots in Amsterdam after a Moroccan man was stabbed to death. The incident is apparently unreported on other Anglophone news sources, even Radio Netherlands (I wonder why?).
Yesterday, after the man was stabbed on the main thoroughfare known as the Insulindeweg in the east of the city, groups of Moroccans, who assumed that the killer was from Surinam, went on the rampage. The victim went into a mobile phone shop at 9 pm after being stabbed, and died shortly after.
Moroccan youths went hunting for Surinamese people to intimidate, and smashed windows between Muiderpoort and Amstel train stations, where there were were clashes with police. A Surinamese cafe was also menaced.
Expatica reports that in the Indische District an eyewitness reported seeing forty to fifty youths besieging a house they thought belonged to someone from Surinam. Bricks were thrown at the building and police had to disperse them.
After two hours the unrest died down. Only one person was arrested during the disturbances.
