UK: Muslim Fanatic Omar Brooks Disrupts Minister's Speech

The Press Association via the Guardian reports that the UK Home Secretary, John Reid was heckled by an aggressive Muslim today, while he addressed a meeting in Leytonstone, east London. Reid was on a campaign, urging Muslim parents to report to the police if they believed their offspring were becoming involved in terrorism or radical Islam.

The protester was also recorded on radio, so I can confidently say that it is Omar Brooks, aka Abu Izzadeeen, the Jamaican-origin convert to Islam, who headed the Saved/Saviour Sect until it was officially banned by John Reid in July. Brooks, an electrician, featured in our Faces of Fanatacism series. Before the ban, Brooks was still giving incendiary speeches glorifying Muslim terrorism.

Reid was at a school in Leytonstone addressing Muslims, states Middle East Online when the barracking began. Yesterday he had written an article in the Sun newspaper advising Muslim parents to report their children. Today Reid warned that young Muslims were being "brainwashed" by Islamic extremists, and then Omar Brooks, who exemplifies the sort of radical extremist who corrupts youth, began his protest.

Dressed in a white robe, Brooks, who is 6 feet tall and bulky, began shouting about how "dare" John Reid come to a Muslim area after "thousands" of Muslims were arrested in Britain. He shouted: "You are an enemy of Islam and Muslims. Shame on all of us for sitting down and listening to him."

He yelled: "State terrorism by British police."

Brooks said: "They are going to come in the morning to your house ... they are going to kick your door down when you're in bed with your wife, then drag you from your own bed."

He claimed that such visits would not be done with a "salam alekum". As stewards tried to grab him, he shouted: "Don't touch me."

Brooks was escorted away from the meeting by stewards and police. A few minutes later, another fanatic began shouting and was escorted from the venue. He carried several posters, which included one which read: "John Reid you will pay!"

The salient points of Reid's speech were these:

"These fanatics are looking to groom and brainwash children, including your children, for suicide bombing, to kill themselves in order to murder others."

"Look for the tell-tale signs now and talk to them before their hatred grows and you risk losing them forever. In protecting our families, we are protecting our community."

"I know how hard it is, sometimes, to see what is in front of our eyes - particularly when it is something that we do not agree with."

"But there are some circumstances when we need to intervene, when we need to challenge or confront their behaviour in order to protect them from others and to protect them from harm."

Reid himself is a father of two. His comments in the Sun newspaper led Ahmed Versi, who edits the Muslim News, to say that Reid was asking the community to spy on its sons.

Whether Omar Brooks/Abu Izzadeen will be charged for "threatening behaviour" or not remains to be seen.

Update: View London, Sky News and the Independent confirm that the man led away by police is Abu Izzadeen/Omar Brooks. There seems some doubt now whether Brooks/Izzadeen has actually been arrested, or merely ejected from the meeting by police as, according to 24dash.com, he gave an impromptu press conference outside the venue, a cricket pavilion, where John Reid was talking.
