France: Chirac Preaches About Differences Between Radical And Moderate Islam

The president of France, Jacques Chirac, left France today and this evening arrived in New York, where he had dinner with Kofi Annan. He is due to participate in an Assembly at the UN, and tomorrow will be meeting with George W. Bush. After Chirac's unhelpful comments at the time of the Iraq invasion/liberation, relations between Mr Bush and Mr Chirac have been strained. However, recent cooperation between France and the US on attempting a peace strategy during the Lebanon/Israel conflict have thawed the frostiness which has existed till now.

Unfortunately, Chirac is still pompous, arrogant and full of his own self importance. His latest foray into the realms of preaching came in an interview broadcast earlier today on Europe 1 Radio, according to AKI. He told listeners "We must avoid confusing Islam with radical Islam." He explained that the Muslim faith is a respected religion, whereas radical Islam is a political creed.

He said: "It is not my place to comment on the Pope's remarks. I only want to say that we need to avoid heightening tensions between peoples and religions in the context of dialogue between cultures and civilisations. France's goal is to re-establish dialogue."

Unfortunately this pompous assumption of Jacques Chirac, who is suddenly an expert on Islam, though typifying his opportunistic behaviour, is not backed up by historical fact. There are plenty of people who claim to respect the Muslim faith while not having the first clue about it. The morons running the BBC and editing their website comments typify this breed. Few, if any have bothered to examine either the Koran or the life of Mohammed.

Though her views have been classed as "extreme" the late Oriana Fallaci said: "There is no such thing as good Islam." She has also written in her book "The Force of Reason" that: "To be under the illusion that there is a good Islam and a bad Islam or not to understand that Islam is only one....is against reason."

Chirac likes to be all things to all people. When there is a real crisis, as happened last year with the riots in Paris suburbs in November, Chirac made hardly a comment, leaving prime minister Dominic de Villepin and interior minister Nicolas Sarkozy to face the wrath of the rabble and the carping of the press while they struggled to find a solution. Chirac only came out to make a public statement when there was a marked drop in the dustbin and vehicle incinerations.

And here again, Chirac is making bland statements. Assuming we are right, and even "moderate Islam" has at its core a violent jihadist ideology which if provoked could spill out into violence? If Chirac was aware of the violence of the prophet Mohammed, would he actually have the guts to say it aloud? I doubt it.

I am a Francophile but Chirac, despite his pomposity, is the archetypal "cheese-eating surrender monkey". He proved that during the riots last year, showing no leadership, no criticism of the Muslims burning Parisian and other suburbs into wastelands. And now while Pope Benedict XVI is at risk of assassination for bravely speaking truths, Chirac claims to know Islam better than the Holy Father, who has spent years studying Islam.

To not forget Oriana Fallaci, she said last year: "The moment you give up your principles, and your values, you are dead, your culture is dead, your civilisation is dead. Period. I feel less alone when I read the books of Ratzinger (now Pope Benedict). I am an atheist, and if an atheist and a pope think the same things, there must be something true. It's that simple! There must be some human truth here that is beyond religion.'

FOOTNOTE: Even though the mayor of Nice on the Cote d'Azur, Jacques Peyrat, had refused permission for a mosque to built there, the president of the administrative Council of Alpes-Maritimes, Christian Estrosi, has signified this evening that he would favour the construction of the building, according to breaking news on Le Figaro.

Don't worry, nobody in France knows that Chirac is still alive... Believe me ! :)

But you write "the late Oriana Fallaci" !

Is she dead ? I didn't know it. I knew that she suffered from cancer, but her death must be very recent ?

This is a real loss. Not only for her fight against Islam, but for all the battles she have fought in her life, beginning as a teenager resistant against Mussolini...

A great Lady !

I wonder if Chirac (or Bush, or Blair for that matter) have bothered to do something drastic--you know, reading the Koran.

Chirac can read ?

When we don't choose a fox for president, we choose a donkey... Maybe somebody cast a curse upon us...
