Vatican City: Pope Apologizes, Muslim Brotherhood Accepts
Once again, violence works for Islam: Pope Benedict Apologizes in Person for Causing Muslims Offense
Sept. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Pope Benedict XVI apologized in person today for causing offense to Muslims with a university lecture last week implicitly linking Islam to violence."I am truly sorry for the reactions caused by a brief passage of my speech," the pope said from his Castel Gandolfo summer retreat in Italy. "These were quotations from a medieval text that do not express in any way my personal opinion."
Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood issued a statement saying the pope's apology is "sufficient," Sky News reported. The head of the Cairo-based group, Mohammad Mahdi Akef, had previously said the pope "aroused the anger of the whole Islamic world."
The apology is the second for the pope in two days after a statement was released yesterday through the Vatican in which the pope reiterated his respect for Islam and said he was sorry his speech had been interpreted in a way he hadn't intended.[...]
In other words; muslim violence has forced the Pope to behave like a Dhimmi, to abjectly apologize, so the violence against Christians would stop. The Pope has chosen the expedient course, but let's think about this; what are the long-term consequences of the self-censorship he has now accepted? Could he be counted to even give hints about the truth about Islam? Will other Catholic clerics be silenced? Will he choose "dialogue at any cost", because he has no other options? This is a serious defeat for freedom, no way around it. We should use it, however, to help organize a more effective resistance against the islamization of our societies.

Hello Ruy and all,
More proof that religion is the opposite of truth, wisdom, and justice
Now we have the infallible Grand Inquisitor (the pot) lecturing Islam (the kettle) about spreading religion through dark deeds and quoting a Dark Ages text while the USA and Europe are in the midst of the Neo-Crusades. The irony and absurdity in this situation is amazing to say the least.
Dear Pope, ever heard of Karma or the golden rule? Ever stop to remember how the Vatican and western nations became so rich and powerful over the centuries? Ever consider giving up your wealth and earthly power to end the blatant hypocrisy of your vane, materialistic, and duplicitous empire? Remember the eye of the needle and the log and mote parables? Is this a demonstration of your infallibility or wisdom? As another wise one once said; What goes around comes around!
The West has killed far more Muslims (and other dark skins) than they have killed westerners, yet our press and leaders can only see Muslim and "third world" desperation in the face of western military and economic dominance and oppression, (in the name of God and country, by the way), as sources of evil in this world.
Guess what guys and girls, war, violence, and injustice are evil, no matter what the excuse or cause or who is doing it to whom. Anyone who thinks the Creator would judge religion, war, or any other profiteering at the expense of others as wise or acceptable activities has a very big surprise in store.
Here is Wisdom!!

So 70-100million Indians dead at the hands of Islam don't count in your reckoning? Only people in the West?

He did not WITHDRAW nor APOLOGISE for what he said - ONLY APOLOGISED FOR THE HURT CAUSED. He CANNOT withdraw, and therefore cannot apologise. The coverage of this phase of things has been as inaccurate as the coverage of his lecture.

Seven Star Hand;
I don't share with you that bleak view of the crusades; it took nearly five centuries of non-stop aggression for the Christians to mount an inadequate response. And neither do I blame religion for the ills of the world--as somebody who lived under a Communist regime, I can attest to the evils of atheistic Marxism.
I won't even comment on your false moral equivalence; I'll second what Sir Henry Morgan said, for now.
Respectfully;

Prodicus;
I did realize Benedict had stopped short of a formal apology. This is a time-honored face-saving technique: it is just that it doesn't work. An apology by any other name it is just an apology. His words will be claimed as a victory by those who work to destroy us.
Best regards;
