Somalia: Islamist Says Nun's Killing Linked To Pope's Speech
Yesterday, according to Reuters and the Washington Post, a Catholic nun was killed in Somalia.
The Italian nun, who has not been named, was working in a children's hospital in northern Mogadishu, when gunmen shot and killed her, and also her bodyguard. She died in the hospital's treatment room. The nun had been shot in the back three times.
A senior source among Somalia's Islamists, who have total control over Mogadishu, said that the killing may well be linked to the anger from Muslims concerning the Pope's recent Regensburg speech, in which he said that violent jihad was "ungodly".
If, as it seems, this innocent woman who dedicated her life helping sick children was shot to prove a point that violent jihad - a central tenet of Islam - is "godly" then what more proof is needed to denounce Islam as evil and inhuman?
More of Islam's totalitarianism and violence was reported in World Net Daily yesterday. On 7 September, there was a partial lunar eclipse visible over Somalia and other near-equatorial regions. While the eclipse was taking place, Muslims in the Manabolyo area of Mogadishu began to chant Koranic verses.
22-year old college student Ali Mustaf Maka'il was present, but did not take part in the chanting. Ali, a cloth merchant, was a convert to Christianity. He was shot in the back by a gunmen who, according to the Barnabas Fund, was a supporter of the Union of Islamic Courts.
"It seems that under the new Islamist rulers, who include hard-line jihadi elements, the tragic history of persecution and martyrdom for Somalia's tiny Christian community is set to continue and most likely to worsen," stated the Barnabus Fund.
The organisation also points out that in October last year, an evangelist Christian called Osman Sheikh Ahmed, who held services in his home, was shot dead by Muslims. The Barnabus Fund also states that children of Christian Somali refugees seeking asylum in Kenya are kidnapped by their Muslim relatives in Somalia, and taken to Islamic institutions for "rehabilitation".
The Melbourne Age reports that one Muslim cleric in Somalia is firing up the anti-Christian sentiment in the country.
Sheikh Abubukar Hassan Malin has called for Muslims to find Benedict XVI and punish him for his speech. Malin said the Pope's speech (which he probably has not read) was as offensive as Salman Rushdie's book "The Satanic Verses".
On Friday at evening prayers, Malin told his congregation at his mosque in southern Mogadishu: "We urge you Muslims wherever you are to hunt down the Pope for his barbaric statements as you have pursued Salman Rushdie, the enemy of Allah who offended our religion. Whoever offends our Prophet Mohammed should be killed on the spot by the nearest Muslim."
He continued: "We call on all Islamic Communities across the world to take revenge on the baseless critic called the pope."
The Age reports that when reached by phone yesterday (Saturday), Malin claimed that his calls were echoed by the Supreme Islamic Council of Somalia (SICS).
Sheikh Ahmed Abdullahi who is on the SICS executive board, called Bededict's comments a "barbarous criticism". He said: "He must apologise because he has offended the most honorable person who ever lived in the world."
Only a Muslim could consider a child-molester, murderer and caravan-raider to be "the most honorable person who ever lived in the world".
According to Corriere the nun was called Suor Leonella, pictured above. Associated Press via Sign on San Diego states that the head of security for the Islamist militia in Somalia, Yusuf Mohamed Siad, has said that one man has been arrested for the nun's killing, and another was being hunted.

In separate news, the Pope's speech may have inspired Islamists in Iraq to murder a Christian. According to the Assyrian News Agency today, a Christain was killed in Baghdad two days ago (Friday 15th). Across mosques in the city, a poster from a group calling itself Kataab Ashbal Al Islam Al Salafi (Islamic Salafist Boy Scout Battalions) has announced that the hitherto unknown group will kill all Christians in Iraq if the Pope does not apologise to Mohammed, the dead 7th century pervert and warlord.

SICS
Well, the sicks got themselves an appropriate acronym then. Seems they can get something right after all.
