Chechnya: Devout Muslims Enjoy Kidnappings and Torture (Yawn)
While the Moscow Helsinki Watch Group recently announced that the Islamic insurgency in Chechnya has been crushed, it said that kidnapping and torture remains the main human rights problem in the war-torn republic.
Imagine that? Kidnapping and torture are preferred by devout Muslims to deal with those they who do not behave `Muslim' enough. (Such things are so banal and routine in the Muslim world that I'm falling asleep as I write, and wondering what use there is mentioning it at all. Hey, it's just another sick and sordid day in Mohammed's neighborhood. Yawn; yawn...)
While the militants' pernicious effort to revive the 7th century Mohammedan cult has been defeated, the poor people of Chechnya now face Islamization from the `legitimate' Chechen government. Headed by the warlord Ramzan Kadyrov, the Chechen government is promoting the violent Muslim cult in order to consolidate power. Kidnapping is an integral part of those efforts.
In 2005, there were 316 kidnappings in Chechnya versus 448 in 2004. Russian human rights activists, however, said, Do not to trust these statistics. The Chechen police try to cover up many crimes in order to please their bosses, who are anxious to show the world that `normalcy' has returned to the republic.
Also, Svetlana Gannushkina, a board member of the Russian human rights group, Memorial, said that the kidnapping figure is much higher because many Chechens fear their own police, and so do not turn to them when their relatives disappear.
That fear is well grounded for several reasons. The police, acting as the private army of the warlord Kadyrov who zealously strives to carry out the tenets of the Mohammedan cult, often themselves kidnap and torture citizens.
At the end of August, the New York Times reported how Malika Soltayeva, a married and pregnant Chechen woman was kidnapped by Chechen police and savagely beaten for her alleged crime of adultery with a Russian soldier, and dishonoring Islam. The charges were never substantiated. But then again, devout Muslims need no evidence and due process of law.
``Turn and be condemned by Allah,'' one of her tormentors said, demanding that she position herself so he could strike her more squarely, reported the New York Times.
Instead of trying to conceal this wicked crime, the devout Muslims of Chechnya are so arrogant and confident that they filmed the savage beating on video and then allowed it to freely circulate via cell phone. That's how a copy ended up in the hands of the Times.
This was not carelessness on part of the devout Muslims, but it was their way to warn other young women not to commit such ``crimes.''
