Norway: More Lying Imams
We mentioned on September 11 that a Norwegian imam called Zulqamain Sakandar Madni had cast doubt on the existence of Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden, and that he had said that Muslims could not have caused the atrocities of 9/11.
In response, a statement from the US Embassy in Oslo refuted Sakandar's comments. This claimed his words "spreading false stories to protect terrorists is destructive". The Embassy letter read: "The UN has listed Osama bin Laden as a terrorist and Al Qaeda as a terrorist organization, and the attacks on September 11 affected the whole world. We find it offensive and sad that a spiritual leader would defend terrorists by seeking to blame others for their actions."
Now Norway's Aftenposten reports that two more Muslim clerics based in Oslo have added their dishonesty to that of Sakandar. Imam Hafiz Mehboob-ur-Rehman of the Islamic Cultural Center said: "I don't believe that Muslims have the resources or qualities needed to carry out the attacks of September 11, 2001."
He added: "There are many theories about Sep. 11, but no hard evidence. In addition, it is against the teaching of Islam to kill civilians like this....The attacks have had no positive effects for Muslim. Muslims and Islam have suffered because of what has happened."
He did not blame the US for killing nearly 3,000 of its own people, as Sajander had done, but shared his skepticism about the existence of al-Qaeda. Mehboob-ur-Rehman said: "Neither I nor any of my acquaintances had heard of al-Qaeda before Sep. 11. I don't know if it exists. Al-Qaeda has primarily existed in the media. I have the impression that everyone mentions al-Qaeda because the USA and President George W. Bush mentions it."
His sidekick, vice-imam Mian Tayyib said: "I feel that the truth has been kept hidden. The way the towers fell indicates that it was not caused by the planes. The close-ups I have seen on TV show smoke coming from the towers before they were hit by the planes."
Imam Syed Ikram Shah of the World Islamic Mission (pictured), which is based in Grønland district of Oslo, said: "Even if they (the hijackers) had Muslim names, those people lived in the West. It is not proof they were Muslims." (We reported on November 10 last year that the World Islamic Mission's leading imam, Syed Ikram Jilani, has publicly stated that it is acceptable for a man to beat one's wife, following the Koran, Surah 4: 34.)
Imam Nehmat Ali Shah of Central Jamaat-e Ahl-e Sunnat said: "Five years have passed since this happened, but as far as I know, no independent court has convicted anyone for it. So I cannot say to day that it was Muslims or anyone else behind it."
If this is the level of stupidity or dishonesty which becomes disseminated in mosques in Norway, then one wonders if state funding, which goes to many mosques, should be withdrawn. By fostering a divide between the reality which is understood by sane Westerners and the insane conspiracy theories of these mullahs, who mostly appear to come from backwards regions of Pakistan, the mosques of Norway are going to foster massive social divisions. They will be useless at countering terrorism if they continue to pretend that the most heinous act of Muslim terrorism was a hoax. If the Imams cannot accept the truth, and prefer to believe in, and propagate lies, then perhaps their residence permits and citizenship rights should be revoked.
