Russia Voices Support for Islamic Terror Group
Even though Russia has suffered ethnic cleansing and some of the most terrorist attacks in history at the hands of Muslims, it continues to do everything possible to accommodate Islamic terror movements.
On September 6, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, voiced his country's support for Hezbollah, the Iran-supported Islamic terror organization that recently precipitated a short but bloody war with Israel.
``Hezbollah is not an imported entity,'' but ``it's a legal political structure in Lebanon,'' Lavrov told journalists, dismissing the fact that the terrorist organization is supported by Iran.
While Russia was an ally in the War Against Islamic Terror following the 9/11 attacks, in recent years it has shown more support for Islamic terror movements in the Middle East. However, when it comes to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the former Soviet republics, Russia often takes a hard line against Islam.
When Islamic insurgents attempted a rebellion in Uzbekistan's Andijan province in May 2005, Russia came squarely behind the central government which crushed the rebellion with brute force. The United States and the European Union, however, took the bizarre position of supporting the insurgents, and even helped to airlift some of the survivors out of the country. (We can only hope they are now being interrogated in Guantanmo).
Likewise, Islamic nations and terror groups in the Mid East are trying to exploit Russia, using it as a counterweight to the United States, if not a wedge to help divide the international community.
