Chechen Warlord Threatens Russian Town, Locals Fear Second Beslan
The Islamic Chechen warlord, Ramzan Kadyrov, has threatened to punish the people of the north Russian town of Kondopoga with ``his own forces'' for their successful attempt to stand up to the Chechen mafia, report Russian media.
Now this is classic Islamic logic. Muslims murder and terrorise, and then cry that they have been victimised!
The statement by Kadyrov, who is feared and despised by many of his own people, follows the grisly murder on August 30 of four Russians by a Chechen mafia hit squad in Kondopoga, a town of 35,000 in the Republic of Karelia, a region of northwest Russia that borders Finland. Nine more Russians were seriously wounded in the brutal attack where Chechens shouted ``Alla Akhbar'' and mutilated their victims.
That Kadyrov has publicly come out in support of the Chechen mafia operating in Kondopoga is a strong indication that this particular group is under his direct control. Kondopoga is a center of the lucrative pulp and paper business.
The dead and wounded Russians were dining at a Chechen-owned restaurant when they were taken by surprise by the Chechen hit squad of about 30 men armed with knives and thick bats. The hit squad was called in after a fight broke out between several Russians and a Muslim waiter. What caused that fight is not clear, but many of the victims had no relation to that quarrel. The Chechen hit squad entered the restaurant and began to attack all Russians inside.
When the police refused to intervene and apprehend the culprits, the local population took matters into their hand. Thousands poured into the street and attacked and burned the Chechen-owned restaurant, and chased all Chechen and other Muslims, a total of about 60 families, from the town.
While such mayhem and disorder is not to be commended, it's the unfortunate result of local police corruption. Law enforcement officers are believed to have been in the pay of the Chechen mafia, and such lawlessness fueled local anger.
Sergei Katanandov, the governor of Karelia, called the recent brutal murders ``the last straw'' and reminded the world that ``people of the North are patient and slow to anger,'' and that if something like this happened it's only because the situation had gone further than can be humanly tolerated.
Since the Chechen warlord Kadyrov's threats, locals have stopped sending their children to school. Reports emerged that Chechen web sites had mentioned the possibility of taking a local school hostage, just like Chechen terrorists did in Beslan.
The sick irony is that the Kondopoga murders came on the eve of the grim second anniversary of the Beslan massacre when Chechen terrorists killed 360 hostages at a school in Russia's southern republic of North Ossetia, a Christian Orthodox region.
In that context, it seems that the Kondopoga massacre was not merely the result of a bar room quarrel, but a desire by Chechens to send an arrogant message to Russians; as if they wanted to say, ``We spit on the graves of the murdered kafir children.''
