Georgia: Finnish Muslim Convert Arrested Trying To "Infiltrate" Ingushetia

News today from Axis Globe, quoting from online magazine Civil Georgia, reports that a Finnish citizen was arrested in the north of the nation, while trying to "infiltrate" the Russian Federation Republic of Ingushetia.

The man had arrived in Georgia on August 25, claiming he wanted to visit the district of Shatili. Instead of going to this district he went to the northern region adjoining the border with Ingushetia, according to a statement made by Border Police on August 31.

The statement claimed: "or two days he was carrying out surveillance of the area and it seemed that he was waiting for someone. On August 28, he tried to hide when saw a group of border policemen approaching, but he was captured."

The Finnish citizen was a convert to Islam, who had adopted the name Abu Bakar Heikkila when he became a Muslim. It is assumed he was trying to cross into Ingushetia illegally. He had in his possession, kinives, binoculars, a map of the North Causasus and other "suspicious" items.

He was handed over to Georgia's counter-intelligence agency.
