Russia: Grenade Thrown Into Home Of Muslim Cleric

Ingushetia mapNews from Interfax-Religion states that earlier today, a grenade was thrown into the home of an imam in the federal republic of Ingushetia.

The incident happened in Malgobek, when unidentified individuals threw the grenade into the courtyard of Hussein Shadiye's home. Mr Shadiye is the imam of the local mosque. No-one was injured in the attack, but his home was slightly damaged in the explosion.

According to Interfax, the Malgobek district prosecutor's office has launched an investigation into the incident, which will involve charges of charges of premeditated damaging of property and illegal possession of weapons and explosives.

No motive is suggested for the attack.

Ingushetia lies adjacent to Chechnya and North Ossetia, with Georgia on its southern border. The majority of the population in the republic is Muslim.
