Australia: Israeli Killed By Sydney Gang - Were They Lebanese Muslims?
News from The Australian, Associated Press via Malaysia's Star and AAP via The Age and the Sydney Morning Herald report that a 36-year old Israeli man, who has not been identified, has been stabbed to death at Bondi in Sydney.
The man was attacked by a gang who jumped from a car and then cornered him outside a store. He was stabbed multiple times, and also hit with a pole.
The CEO of New South Wales Jewish Board of Deputies, Vic Alhadeff, said in the earlier editions that he did not believe that the incident was related to the events in Lebanon, but in a later edition from the Sunday Telegraph he is quoted as saying that the incident DID appear to be related to the Lebanon conflict.
The police were called to the shop at 9.45 Saturday evening, local time, and found the victim slumped down on the ground. The Israeli man died a few hours later at St Vincents Hospital.
A spokeswoman for the police said she could not give a description of the gang, even though there were eyewitnesses to the event.
Something is strange here. There are several gangs in Sydney, but there are also quite a few Lebanese Muslim gangs, who mostly come from Lakemba.
As the event happened late in the evening, it only has scant details given in the coverage. As and when there are further details, I will provide an update.
