India: Muslim Clerics Call For Death Of Publisher

The state of Uttar Pradesh lies in northern India, bordering both China and Nepal. News from Pakistan's Daily Times, India Muslims info and Iranian Broadcasting News highlights how intolerant and vindictive the state's Muslim leaders are.

A book called Hum Bhi Bane Mahan was being taught to fifth grade students at a private school in the state, the Vivekananda school in Mahoba town. Copies of the Hindi-language book were confiscated from the school.

The state government has also banned the book, following protests from Muslim clerics, who had been calling not only for the publisher to be arrested, but had openly called for him to be killed.

The reason for this acrimony is that the book contains an illustration of the so-called "prophet" Mohammed. The home secretary of Uttar Pradesh state, R. M. Srivastava, announced that the state administration has also sealed the premises of the publisher. He said that the publisher of the book has been arrested.

The state education minister, Kiran Singh, has ordered an inquiry to find out why the book had been approved by a government panel which clears textbooks for publication.

Depicting the perverted "prophet" is regarded as a crime in Islam, but it is certainly not against the laws and statutes of India.

Perhaps the reason the state government is being so eager to appease the blood-lusting clerics in Uttar Pradesh is because there has been considerable conflict between Muslims and Hindus in the region. Last year, there were riots and fighting between Hindus and Muslims in the town of Mau in which twenty people were killed.
