US: Israel-Islamic War Affects Local Politics

Even the Mayor of Los Angeles feels the heat for supporting Israel: Muslim Leaders Upset With Mayor Villaraigosa

CBS) LOS ANGELES Leaders of the Southland Muslim community Friday denounced Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's participation in a pro-Israel rally in the wake of violence in the Middle East.

Villaraigosa attended a Westside rally with Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger on July 23 to express support for Israel, but has not responded to repeated invitations to attend Muslim vigils calling for a cease-fire in Lebanon, according to Shakeel Syed, executive director of the Shura Council of Southern California.

"The local city mayor should never be exclusive in any way, form or shape," Syed said during a news conference in front of City Hall. "We agree with his claim that the city of Los Angeles is the diversity capitol of the world, but we emphatically disagree with his actions.”

"Mr. Mayor, the city of Los Angeles has three other sides to it, the east, the north and the south, and we call upon you to be inclusive in every sense of the word."[...]

"The local city mayor should never be exclusive in any way..."; does that mean this Muslim leaders feel rejected by the rejection of Hezbollah? It is as if they sympathized with a terrorist organization which--we are told--has nothing to do with true Islam. Odd.
