Italy: Resort to Open Beach for Muslim Women

Riccione, 3 August (AKI) - One of Italy's most popular Adriatic Sea resorts, Riccione, is set to open the country's first beach exclusively for Muslim women. The city administration has approved an unprecedented measure this week providing for a beach from which men will be banned and fitted with tents to safeguard the privacy of Muslim women who want to sunbathe and swim without having to do so fully clothed as Islamic custom prescribes. Female lifeguards will also be providedCity councilor Loretta Villa told Italy's largest circulation paper Corriere della Sera that Riccione is now only awaiting for one of the local entrepreneurs "to apply to run the beach and we will imediately prepare the authorisation."
Highly popular among Italians and Europeans for its resorts, shops and night clubs, Riccione, in central Italy, has become popular with Arabs, especially Saudis, who are increasingly demanding customised services, such as private jet charters.[...]

Indeed a great news. It is good that at least someone is making an effort to facilitate the Muslim women with a separate beach. I know in many of the western countries this might sound rather discriminating just like the fashion parade that is organized just for women in Mornington...but this is the only way to engage the Muslim women.
We will have to wait for few more decades to see a progress in their life when they won't be dominated by the patriarchal order any longer.

I am sorry himadree, but I cannot agree.
While we wholeheartedly support the rights of Muslim women and girls to be free of forced marriages, inappropriate Hudood laws, and honor killings, both in Muslim countries and in the West (and fully support their struggle for legal equality in patriarchal societies), I see this as nothing other than deliberate self-imposed segregation.
Muslim women in the West are afforded every legal protection under the law as Western women, but here they choose to have a segregated area, without men around. If they paid for these things themselves, that is another matter. But governments in Europe and elsewhere are all too willing to facilitate such segregationist and anti-Western notions.
There is something very unhealthy about people who choose to live in the West in the 21st century but choose to live as if they are in the East in the 7th century.
Liberation from tyranny should be for all. Segregation is for losers who choose to live under tyranny.
