US: The Strangely Common Muslim Lone Shooter

Michelle Malkin has compiled an (incomplete) gallery of "lone" shooters, or shooters whose Muslim identity the government and the media have decided to obscure.

It is easy to understand why the government would want to dilute their Muslim identity: it goes against the official policy that "Islam is a Religion of Peace", and it runs counter to the "democratization" strategy for victory in the War on Terror. The media also has its own reasons; portraying Islam's effect on Muslims does not fit within their "blame the West for every evil" mentality.

But understanding does not equal agreement. There are serious costs to the government strategy: if they are wrong about the nature of Islam, they will only be advancing our destruction by their ignorance. The media attitude is just plain morally disgusting. There is no need to help either institution in their objectives: we must know the truth, and then choose a proper course of action.
