Bulgaria: Nuclear Material Heading for Iran Seized
The UK's Daily Mail newspaper reports Bulgarian authorities have seized a shipment of nuclear materials headed for Iran. The materials in question cannot be used to build a nuclear bomb, but as the newspaper aptly points out, they can be used to build a dirty bomb. The likely use of the nuclear material, however, is their intended use: as soil radioactivity test kits. If you were--say--a terrorist rogue state bent on acquiring nuclear weapons, and doing its best to hide it from real or potential inspectors, you would need that equipment to make sure you don't leave your nuclear prints on the soil.

Border guards seized a British lorry on its way to make a delivery to the Iranian military - after discovering it was packed with radioactive material that could be used to build a dirty bomb.The lorry set off from Kent on its way to Tehran but was stopped by officials at a checkpoint on Bulgaria's northernborder with Romania after a scanner indicated radiation levels 200 times above normal.
The lorry was impounded and the Bulgarian Nuclear Regulatory Agency (NPA) was called out.
On board they found ten lead-lined boxes addressed to the Iranian Ministry of Defence. Inside each box was a soil-testing device, containing highly dangerous quantities of radioactive caesium 137 and americium-beryllium.[...]
