Lebanon: Islamist Who Praised Bombs Is Now Scared Of Them

fat bastardOnce again, the bloated cleric Omar Bakri Mohammed is making the news. The founder of Al-Muhajiroun, the extreme Islamist group, and spiritual leader of the two recently-banned UK Islamist groups Al Ghurabaa and the Saved/Saviour Sect fled to Lebanon last year, after living at the UK taxpayer's expense for 20 years. The then-Home Secretary, Charles Clarke issued a banning order on the fat cleric, preventing him from being allowed to return.

While in Lebanon, Syrian-born Bakri boasted that Britain was "missing him", and said that Britain would eventually become an Islamic state. He has praised the 9/11 hijackers, who killed more than 3,000 people as "the magnificent 19". He has supported hostage-taking of women and children, and has said of suicide bombers: "The martyrdom operations in Palestine are so beautiful."

In February this year, he told Radio Four that the person(s) responsible for the cartoons of the so-called prophet Mohammed should be killed: "However, in Islam, God said, and the messenger Mohammed said, whoever insults a prophet, he must be punished and executed. This man should be put on trial and if it is proven to be executed."

For a man who glorifies violence, terrorism and bombing it is now a delight to hear that he is not too happy about being in Lebanon while Israeli bombs are falling around him. The bravado of a man who supported killing has evaporated and he is now pleading with the British authorities to be allowed to return to Britain, the country he abused and wished to see vanquished.

Reuters reports that earlier today, Bakri had said he tried to get on board a British warship which was evacuating civilians, but was refused permission to board.

"The answer was, 'unless you have a British passport you are not entitled to come on board," he told Sky News. He said that he had shown British officials his UK driving license and his now-cancelled British passport.

His whinings are classic, now that he feels under threat. He had no sympathy for the victims of 9/11 when he glorified their killers, but now moans: ""I know myself I am not welcome in the UK ... but I have the right like everyone else to safety. It is better to try and fail."

Those who died while going about their daily routines in the World Trade Center or at the Pentagon, or taking flights as passengers had the right to safety too, before they were attacked by the "magnificent 19".

Last night ITV television news reported that the cleric had said he wanted to be given a temporary visa for one month, to allow him to visit his wife, children and grandchildren, who still live in Britain.

It is unlikely the cleric with no compassion for victims of terrorism will be given much compassion in return. The Home Office stated that he had been banned because his presence was "not conducive to the public good."

As a former Buddhist, I feel that Bakri's plight has the word "karma" stamped all over it.

The newspaper The Sun notes that the email whhich Bakri had sent to the British Embassy in Beirut had read; "The current situation in Beirut left me without any choice but to appeal to you to grant me a visit visa to see my children for one month." Bakri was claiming that he should be granted the visa on "humanitarian grounds".
