Russia: Four Islamists Blow Themselves Up

When you play with dangerous explosives, there is always a chance that these explosives can set themselves off with no warning. Four Chechen Islamists found this out the hard way this morning, states rian.ru, quoting RIA Novosti.

The four were in a truck loaded with explosives, escorted by three cars, apparently on their way to Ingushettia for a spot of mayhem and murder. The Federal Security services reported today that the truck. with weapons, explosives and militants on board, blew itself up, in a blast so severe that hardly any parts of the vehicle were left intact.

The Federal Security spokesman said: "One of the militants in the truck has been identified as Tarkhan Ganizhev, a close associate of warlord Doku Umarov." The other three militants have yet to be identified.

42-year old Umarov took over the role of Chechen rebel leader (or President of the "Chechen Republic of Ichkeria") after Abdul-Khalim Sadulayev was gunned down in a firefight in Argun, near Grozny, on June 17.

Umarov has led several attacks against Russian targets, including an assault on 19 police stations and prisons in Ingushetia in June 2004.

Ganizhev, who was killed in the blast, had the nickname Tarella, and led several units in Ingushetia. He took part in the June 2004 raids, and assisted in the kidnapping of the father-in-law of Murat Zyazikov, the Ingushetia President. Ganishev was wanted on several warrants, including banditry and hostage taking.

I wonder if there is the possibility of convincing more Jihadists to follow their example. This is one case when I wish they had more explosives with them.
