Australia: Muslim Mufti Miffed Again, Told To Sign On Dole
We wrote in April that the Mufti of Australia, Sheikh Taj al-Din al-Hilaly, the Egyptian born Lebanese head of the Lakemba Mosque in Sydney was said to be soon losing his job as Mufti.
His "job" as Mufti had come as something of a surprise, as his spokesman, Keysar Trad, had long proclaimed that the Mufti's title was an honorary one, and not paid. Either through stupidity or dishonesty, Keysar Trad had not been telling the truth. The Mufti has, in fact, been receiving payments from the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) since 1989, to the tune of 40,000 Australian dollars ($29,668 US).
The Mufti has been doing much to earn his keep, calling the 9/11 incidents as "God's work against oppressors" and calling Jews "the underlying cause of all wars", saying they try to control the world "through sex, then sexual perversion, then the promotion of espionage, traitory and economic hoarding."
The Sydney Morning Herald and ninemsn report that the management of AFIC have told Hilaly that he must contact his local Centrelink office to claim dole, because the council can no longer afford to pay him.
As we reported on May 28, AFIC is having problems with its bank, Westpac. An election at the end of April had brought a new team into office at AFIC, led by Rahim Ghauri, a schoolteacher from Perth. Five of the smaller councils for which AFIC acts as an umbrella body have been challenging the new elections, and Westpac has taken on board their complaints. The bank has asked for verification of the legitimacy of the executive to appoint signatories to bank accounts.
Rahim Ghaury has now written to the Sheikh, saying: "The Westpac Bank has informed us that we will not be able to draw any funds from the bank. Due to this restriction we have to curtail or suspend our staff salaries."
Hilaly is not a happy Mufti, and has written back: "I would prefer to die 100 times over than to stand in line seeking welfare payments from Centrelink. You are very much mistaken if you believe that you can insult me. My dignity will not accept for me to be held hostage to the mercy of AFIC or anyone else for that matter."
According to the Australian newspaper, "It is understood the mufti favours the rebel board over the new regime.". That may be, but back in April, the man who is now heading the rebel board, Neil Kadomi, was the one who first suggested ditching the Sheikh. Kadomi said then "So many ... say that he (Hilaly) is not our mufti."
As we wrote in November Hilaly was involved in a vicious campaign of hostility against Al-Ahbash, a Lebanese based charity with a radio station and advice center, which had support from a large section of the same Lebanese community that lives in Sydney, where Hilaly is based. One cannot expect to be the "spritual leader" for all of Australia's 300,000 Muslims, if one decides to vilify and attack certain sections of that community.
Furthermore, Hilaly's arrogance about receiving dole money is breathtaking. Dole comes from Australian taxpayers. The wages which the Mufti received from AFIC were, like AFIC's other funds, the result of government hand-outs. It seems a pity that the Mufti cannot earn his wages properly - how many other governments use taxpayers' money to subsidise people who celebrate terrorists and vilify Jews?
(Apart from the UK, of course, and its annual payments to the Muslim Council for Britain).
UPDATE: Sadly the Mufti will still get his handouts. The story from the Sydney Morning Herald has been updated on the above link. AFIC's legal adviser Haset Sali has said there was a "glitch" and the Mufti will continue to get paid for just being himself, an arrogant, irascible, terror-supporting anti-semite.
Sali told AAP: "He will be looked after, he will get his pay in due course ... and the poor old sheikh won't have to join the dole queue."
Shame....
