Pakistan: Archbishop Says Muslim Attacks On Christians Increasing
News from The Universe states that Lawrence Saldanha, Archbishop of Lahore in Punjab province, is claiming that Christians have become "quite unpopular with the radical Muslims" since Pakistan officially joined with the United States to fight the "war on terror".
The Archbishop also claimed "common people" were biased against Christians, who were often the poorest and least-educated people in Pakistan.
He said that when the US/Pakistan alliance against terrorism began, people assumed it was a good thing, but with the rise in anti-Christian sentiment which now appears to be happening he said that the situation is negative.
Church leaders in Pakistan have claimed that many Muslims associate Christians with Western societies.
Christians in Pakistan comprise less than 2% of the population. This year, on 19th February in Sukkur in Sindh province, south Pakistan, false rumours of burned Korans led 400 Islamists to attack Christian interests - the St Saviours Church and St Xavier's Church and St Mary's school, which had been built in 1889.
On November 12 in Sangla Hill, Punjab province last year, three churches, 12 houses, a school, a youth hostel and a priest's home were burned by a mob of Muslims following a similar rumor, which was later proved to have been false. Sangla Hill in Nankana Sahib district lies 130 km (80 miles) from Lahore.
According to Fransiscans International the area of Sangla Hill has a population of 150,000 with around 12,000 of the population being Christian.
The desecration of the Koran is a crime under Pakistan's draconian blasphemy laws, which were introduced by the Islamist dictator, Zia ul-Haq, in 1986. Section 295-B of Pakistan's penal code states that desecration of a Koran merits life imprisonment. Slandering the paedophile prophet in word or image, can mean that under Section 295-C a person can be executed. So far, no-one has been officially executed for blasphemy, but many people have been lynched to death by Muslim civilians.
Christians are often accused of blasphemy in Pakistan. Between 1986 and 2003, 78 Christians were held on blasphemy charges. 23 people involved in blasphemy cases have been murdered in Pakistan, according to the National Commission for Justice and Peace, and a quarter of those murdered were Christians.

Since there are numerous web sites and blogs run by organizations that monitor the worldwide and web sites exist.persecution of Protestants and Evangelical Christians, more web sites and blogs should also be created by organizations to monitor the worldwide persecution of Roman Catholics. I currently do not know if such blogs exist.

Hi Christian
The two websites above are worthwhile Catholic sites:
http://www.franciscansinternational.org/
http://www.totalcatholic.com/index.php
And two Catholic blogsites of note are:
http://custosfidei.blogspot.com/
and Franze's
http://nubaisla.wordpress.com/
Nubaisla is mainly in Spanish, but many articles are in English.
Check out the sites and have a look at their links. If, from here, you find a good Catholic blog which deals with the problems of Islam, please let us know.
Regards
Gerald
