Borneo: Beware of un-Islamic Writing Styles
Truth be told, I consider most of the latest trends in writing to be anti-writing, anti-reader, and anti-art, but un-Islamic? This only shows how totalitarian Islam can be, when even writing styles can be "un-Islamic": Participants warned against un-Islamic writing styles
[...]Dr Haji Morsidi Haji Muhammad, the head of Malay Literature Department, Faculty of Arts and Social Science (FASS), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), however advised local novel writers to be careful as certain styles in novel-writing are classified by literary critics as anti-religion and un-Islamic."The development of writing styles in novel started with classicism in 17th century, romanticism in 18th century, realism in 19th century, modernism in 20th century and post-modernism in late 20th century.
"The latest trends in novel-writing include cartoonism, expressionism, abstract expressionism, imagism, absurdism, nouveau roman and existentialism to name a few.
"However, a few latest trends are classified to be anti-religion and un-Islamic by critics. Therefore being Muslim writers, you must be careful not to adopt writing styles that could provoke critics into classifying your works as un-Islamic," he said.[...]
