Turkey: Piglet And Pooh Are Banned By Islamists
We have reported on the campaigns of intimidation against Winnie the Pooh's best friend Piglet. On October 1 we reported that Piglet was persecuted by a Muslim member of Dudley Council in Birmingham, Britain. Councillor Mahbubur Rahman intimidated council staff at the benefits department. As a result, the Council ordered a fatwa which ensured that all items depicting pig-related emblems, including calendars, and even a box of tissues featuring Piglet having fun with Pooh, were removed. Following an uproar, on October 19, the ban was repealed, and sanity prevailed.
But Piglet's persecutions did not end there. At the end of October he was being vilified again. Two British high street banks, the National Westminster and the Halifax, declared a fatwa against pig-related merchandise in their advertising and in their high street branches, for fear of offending Muslim sensibilities. Jewish customers had never complained about piggy banks and other items, but they are not as vindictive as Muslims.
Piglet need not worry about being banned from Natwest - I can vouch from experience that their managers are money grubbing extortionists. They also handle the account of Interpal, a pro-Palestinian charity, and were sued in January in New York because money supplied by this charity has been ending up in the war-coffers of the terrorist group Hamas. When they were previously informed of Interpal's money going to Hamas, the bank refused to close Interpal's account.
Piglet has been banned from a school in West Yorkshire since March 2003. He can live in the library of Park Road Junior Infant and Nursery School in Batley, but no under-sevens can be taught about his fun adventures with Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Eyeore, Owl and Rabbit in the Hundred Acre Wood while their images are shown to the children (a vital part of story-telling for young children). The headmistress of the school, Barbara Harris, has banned the telling of stories about pigs where pictures are shown. This is because 60 per cent of her pupils are Muslims, and she thinks that Piglet and other porcine characters would upset them.
But now, the Islamist AKP (Justice & Development) government of Turkey, led by Recep Tayyip Erdogan, has ordered that Winnie the Pooh be banned from state television, because it features the pink and persecuted Piglet. What has he done to deserve this? The news of Piglet being banned from the Turkish airwaves is currently only reported in the German edition of Der Spiegel, and I am not proficient in German.
In brief, the national state TV station TRT has been banned from showing Winnie the Pooh because Piglet appears too often. Originally, the TV station had tried to edit out scenes in which Piglet appeared, but this proved difficult because of Piglet's ubiquitous presence. The news was reported by the left-leaning newspaper "Cunhuriyet" today.
The TRT station management have also forbidden other pig images. Winnie the Pooh films are available on other stations, and videos of Pooh and Piglet are freely available in shops. Recently, the employees of TRT had complained about the increasing interference of the Islamist government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The government is accused of departing from the state secularism of Turkey on account of his own religious prejudices, and critics have complained that TRT has similarly veered towards religiouslly-motivated programming, and away from secularism.
This is an international disgrace. Turkey should NEVER join the European Union if it cannot accept the rights of a small pink pig, cherished by millions around the world. Bastards!!!
When Der Spiegel can translate this extremely important story, I will update it. In the meantime, for our Dutch readers, there is an article in the Netherlands Telegraaf.
An English language account can be found in the Australian Daily Telegraph.

Hi Jack,
You placed an html link in your comment, which unfortunately is not visible.
We had to remove html linking because our trackbacks had become infested by bozos linking to weird sex sites. Sorry.
So I have placed your link here.
