Russia: Muslims Try To Drive Wedge Between Russia and USA

AshirovThe co-chairman of Russia's Council of Muftis, Nafigulla Ashirov (pictured), lashed out at the United States, accusing it of orchestrating the attack on Russian diplomats in Baghdad one week ago that left one dead, and three others missing, reports Interfax-Religion.

The move appears to be a carefully calculated effort by Russian Muslims to divide a wedge between Russian and the U.S., both allies in the War Against Muslim Terror.

"The Iraqi people and the Islamic world would not profit from such an act. Who would profit? Political analysis and common sense would suggest those who are dissatisfied with Russian policy, which runs counter to the hegemonic intentions of the U.S. and the Western world,'' said Ashirov, who is the top Islamic official in the Asian part of Russia.

Ashirov, speaking at a press conference in Moscow, was able to nimbly avoid that inconvenient word `evidence', and indeed, he could not provide any serious argument or evidence which would clearly implicate the American government in this crime.

Ashirov wasn't the only Muslim official more than happy to slander and sow discord. Abdul-Vakhed Niyazov, President of the Islamic Cultural Center of Russia, said that the kidnappings "might have been organized by the secret services which started the war in Iraq.''

And why couldn't Muslims be behind this crime? "Islamic ideology and Sharia Law forbid such acts against diplomatic missions because Islam is based on the fact that every member of a community is responsible for his actions,'' said Ashirov.

Mr Ashirov obviously doesn't read the newspapers, which are every day full of atrocities carried out by Muslims screaming, ``Allah Akhbar.''

It would be a mistake to dismiss Ashirov and others as just blowing off steam. Their outburst is just another effort to wrench Russia away from Christian civilization. The Muslim lobby in Russia is becoming increasingly powerful. The country has about 15 million cultural Muslims, or 10 percent of the population, which include Tatars, Bashkirs, Chechens, and Ingushi, all of whom have their own republics.

Over the past decade, the Muslim lobby has been promoting Eurasian nationalism as Russia's new political ideology. This platform says Russia is not a part of Christian European civilization, but a unique civilization of many cultures and nationalities. While there is some truth to this, the majority of Russians, who are Slavs, prefer to think of themselves as Europeans.

How long will it take before Russian, European, and American leaders understand that their Muslim minority populations are inherently violent and subversive, and that their first responsibility must be to defend the majority of law-abiding citizens?
