Europe: The Rage And Pride Revisited

An excellent article, translated in part by undersigned, from the Norwegian news paper Aftenposten

Europe`s hate towards itself:

EQUAL RIGHTS.
300 years ago when the air was pure and sex was dirty, the brightest minds in Europe and in America, dreamt of sociopolitical system where all men and women had equal rights, education was available to all, religious fanaticism, racism and intolerance was kept in check.

The dream became a reality which we all enjoy, atleast here in Europe.

THE HUMANIST EUROPE
Yet, when one read through the articles of the magazines of the intelligentsia, one is left with the impression that Europe is only about plunder, crusades, holocaust, imperialism and inquisition.
The Humanist Europe - which made Norway pass time with it`s philanthropic messianism, and made Poland a free country, appears to have went under ground.

The classic humanist agenda - with it`s Socratic quest after truth, the independence of the individual, the Christian Agape and the spirit of self criticism - appears to be as useless as a x-mas tree in May...

We may not have lost it all completely, but the times are changing and these classic "virtues", one cannot escape the fact, they become of less and less vitality and influence for each passing day and the general sentiment appears to be ignorance.
EXCUSE ME
In addition to the apologies of the past crimes of Europe, we even experience an orgia in excuses for the freedoms of Europe.
We have a continent which says "My history is insignificant and I have no past, I define myself according to human rights"

A civilization in decline - or perhaps more correct; moving along the point of stalemate with the possibility of initiating on a decline - is marked by people focusing on and demanding rights virtually beyond the possible, they demand the pool of rights filled till it swims over. Actually very much our problem, atleast it is when we are in the process of forgetting what build the concrete fundament these rights can poored into without slipping through the sand.
We have a Scandinavia, mumbling "Excuse me" when religious fanatics are burning embassies and shout "islam means peace". One is tempted to ask, is this radicalism or pure cowardliness ? Or is it simply loss of memory ? ... Summarizing some viewpoints of Leszek Kolakowski :
At some point freedom and tolerance expand themselves to become a tolerance of barbarian forces. The cult of peace and dialogue ends with to much talk and a weakened will to defend ourselves...
Characteristic are moslem immigrants portrayed as a threatening and a incapable minority, not as citizens. If they were considered citizens and made up to be such, they would be subject to the same demands and duties like other Norwegian people. Thus they would be part of building the country, rather than take it over. I suspect that so called immigrants don`t want more talk about tolerance and respect, they want jobs.
I don`t think the real problem for Norway today is islam. The real problem is that mechanisms of liberal democracy is weak like never before...

I very much agree to this, islam could pose no threat if it was not for our weakened grasp of "reality" or the "real world". And was it not for our moral relativism and failure to live up to our core values and some willingness to stand firm.
IMPOSSIBLE TO CONDEMN
The self destruction of the open society is on going right in front of our eyes and in many shapes. Starting with an educational model which teach us to respect traditions of others and hate the west.
Today it is almost impossible to condemn lawlessness or barbarism, unless it is Europe, USA or Israel which is to blame.

800000 people are killed in Rwanda, virtual silence. 2.2 mio. in Sudan "We can`t really defend our continuation of ignorance on this one and keep looking the other way, can we?".
Israel kill 52 Palestinians, 22 of them alleged civilians that is 30 Palestinian gunmen killing 23 israeli soldiers, first of all because Israel did not use excessive force but did house to house search with soldiers on foot. And one might suspect the 22 "unarmed civilians" were not all that unarmed. But the bottomline is that Israel sacrifice 23 young mens life to save Palestinian lives and yet this was outcried as a "massacre", "genocide" perpetrated by Israelis.
The assault on Jenin, targeting Bomb making factories, came after 3 seperate bomb attacks had cost 47 Israeli civilian citizens their life.
Need I say more ?
It is like the original traditions, be they moslem, Indian or African, knew nothing of violence until the west interfered. Or Islamic countries never have had imperialistic projects. Anti western sentiment is like music in the fundies ears.

Not long ago I read an article in Le Monde which Praised "the tough beauty" of ethnic rap to the skies. the beauty consisted racist hate, pornography and unspeakable violence on base, primitive French.
But it was all "noble" because it was full of wrath towards the west...

The point being that intellectuals don`t defend the freedoms of the west, kneel down to totalitarian forces and shoot themselves in the foot - and they lose trustworthiness. They shoot themselves in the foot because cowardly multiculturalism becomes a catalyst for anti western extremism.
It might even become a catalyst for even worse than just the anti west sentiment, why people take these cultural relativists, these abstract chit chatters, any serious is beyond me,

TO KEEP QUIET
It appears the experience, from two totalitarianisms and the virtual destruction of Europe in the 20th century, has created an elite which have the project of keeping quiet while fighting poverty in world - but not the poverty of the intellect.

No, they assume the golden purse just keeps being filled and that wealth is a law of nature no one has to work for, they assume we can do without pre modernist culture since in their mind our culture is evil and arrogant, they are so wrong, and we are the blind being lead by the blind.

The "Rage and Pride essay" by Oriana Fallaci, which I refer to at top can be read in full here and it`s worth it, worth a reread too.
