Kenya: Mystery Of The Vanishing Muslim Miracle Fish
We reported on May 4 on the tale of how Muslims in Borneo were in awe of an egg squeezed out of a chicken's rear end, and which apparently bore the word "Allah" on its lumpy surface.
Well Allah has been out doodling again, and his latest work of calligraphy was upon a tuna fish, which was discovered in the Takaunu Fish Shop in Mombassa, Kenya. Apparently Allah was not content to just write his name in an act of cheap graffiti. He seems to have scribbled in Arabic letters, the words "Wa anta khair al-raziqin" or "You are the best provider".
The fish had been caught at the end of last week at Vanga, 30 miles south down the coast, by a man called Said Ali, states the BBC.
Last weekend, people flocked to the Takaunu Fish Shop to see this wondrous tuna. Locals and scholars made offers to purchase the fish, with the highest bid going to $150, twenty five times a normal tuna's market value.
The discovery of the fish brought the attention of Muslim scholars and imams in Kenya, and Islamic leaders had requested Kenya's National Museum to take the fish and preserve it for the country's heritage. The museum agreed to do this.
And then the fish disappeared. It was assumed that people posing as museum officials had stolen the dead object. This sparked a minor crisis, and then the miraculous tuna was discovered, back in the shop where it had first been displayed. Police are now questioning the owner of the shop and another man, in connection with the "theft". Allah works in mysterious ways.
According to East Standard, the fish is now in custody of the real members of the National Museum. They have said that the fish will be preserved by making a casting of sawdust and silicon rubber. It is currently being retained by the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries laboratories in Mombasa where it is kept at an environment of -20 degrees (farenheit?) to stop it from rotting any further. It will finally be exhibited to the public in a permanent display at Fort Jesus Museum.
In Waterfoot in Lancashire, Britain, in January, a tropical fish (Astronotus ocellatus, or Oscar fish) was seen in a pet shop. A Muslim customer thought he could make out the word "Allah" in Arabic on one side of the fish (pictured) and "Mohammed" on the other.
The Muslim customer offered 10 pounds ($18) for the 2 inch long fish, and then bought the most expensive aquarium to house it in. The tank cost 700 pounds ($1,260).
If anyone really wants to imbibe the credulity of our friends from the Islamic faith, you can do no better than to click on Islam Miracle where bees have built the word "Allah" in wax, and other "miraculous" examples of supernatural Arabic calligraphy are showcased. The name "Allah" is written in a cloud, in a human ear, a squash, a fish from Senegal, a tomato, and other amazing delights are revealed.
A miraculous tomato was discovered in Britain in 1999, when a Muslim housewife cut the fruit in half, only to discover Allah had scribbled "Bismillah" (Allah) on one side. On the other were the words "la illaha ilala" (There is no God but Allah). The Yorkshire woman had hundreds of Muslims arriving at her family's small terraced house to view this "miracle".
But if she had cut the tomato from a different angle, would she have still got Arabic letters in the cross section? I suppose it beats images of Mother Theresa in a cinnamon bun.
