Iraq: Islam's Resurgence Means More Death and Suffering for Population
As Iraq witnesses a resurgence of belief in the totalitarian cult of Islam following decades of Saddam Hussein's secular dictatorship, daily life in the country is increasingly one of chaos and bloodshed.
Iraq's most important TV station, Al-Sharqiya, reported on May 10 that more than 1,091 residents of Baghdad alone were killed in April in violence related to strife among various followers of the 7th century Arabian warlord and pedophile, Mohammed.
``We were mortified, distraught, and angry when we heard the extent of the carnage which is also carried out with horrendous torture,'' said the office of Iraqi president, Jalal Talabani, in a statement.
Most of the violence is between followers of two branches of the Mohammedan cult--- Shiites and Sunnis. Every day, Baghdad police find mass graves of people dumped near roads; many have been tortured. The violence has worsened since the Feb. 22 bombing of a mosque holding the remains of an Islamic warlord who is held in great honor by followers of the Shiite branch.
