US: Prosecution Claims 9/11 Islamist "Loved" Victims' Pain

News from the Times states that at the trial of Zacarias Moussaoui in Alexandria, Virginia, the prosecution has stated that the accused should be executed for being a "cold-blooded killer".

We described how he sneered at victims, and boasted that he wanted to kill more Americans than died in 9/11 during this trial. On April 22 last year, Moussaoui, a French national, had pleaded guilty to conspiracy charges, related to his involvement with the attacks on 9/11, 2001.

On March 27 we revealed that he had been scheduled to fly a plane into the White House with the UK "shoe-bomber", Richard Reid, who went on to attempt to detonate a bomb in his trainer on a Miami-bound plane on December 22, 2001. The plan for Moussaoui to fly a hijacked plane into the White House was scuppered when he was arrested on August 16, 2001 in Michigan.

As he had already been found guilty, the current trial, which has lasted six weeks, is now deciding on whether or not Moussaoui should receive a death sentence or life imprisonment. On April 3 the jury decided that Mossaoui was "eligible for death" for his conspiracy in the 9/11 attacks. He is the only person to be charged with the attacks on September 11, 2001, which killed more than 3,000 people, when four planes were hijacked to be used as flying bombs.

In the subsequent parts of the trial, following the jury's decision to declare him "eligible for death", the jury has endured harrowing testimonies and recorded phone conversations from people trapped in the World Trade Center before it collapsed.

But even though 37-year old Moussaoui has been under threat of death, he has become more abusive, and totally lacking in remorse, belittling the tears of witnesses and making statements that Muslims should be the next super-power, and that Allah would curse all in the courtroom. His latest outburst, according to the Times, was to shout out: "There is more than one way to skin the American pigs."

The lawyers have now been submitting their final statements. Prosecutor David Raskin said that the convict should be killed by lethal injection because "there is no place on this good earth" for someone who had no remorse for the 3,000 people who died.

Raskin urged jurors to reject claims from the defense that Moussaoui was suffering from schizophrenia, or seeking martyrdom.

Earlier, Gerald Zerkin, a defense lawyer said that Moussaoui was baiting the jury to give him the death penalty, stating Moussaoui's contempt for victims "is proof that he wants you to sentence him to death - he is baiting you into it - he came to America to die in jihad and you are his last chance."

David Raskin told the jury: "He wants you to think Osama bin Laden will be mad at us. Do you think Osama bin Laden gives a damn about what happens here? That is a joke. It is time to put an end to all this. It is time to put an end to his hatred and venom."

Referring to Moussaoui's mocking of the testimony from victims and relatives recalling the 9/11 attacks, Raskin stated: "The defendant rejoices in all that pain...He loved it because he was responsible for it. He loved it because it meant to him 'mission accomplished'."

In breaking news, the defense has claimed that as Moussaoui is actively seeking the martyrdom of the death penalty, he should be sentenced to life imprisonment, where he could endure "the long slow death of a common criminal."
