UK: Jail Lavatories Must Not Point To Mecca
I sometimes wonder what prisons are for. Traditional arguments involve either punishment, rehabilitation, or removing dangers from society. But it seems that Britain's penal regulators apparently think prison is a semi-monastic place of spiritual and religious contemplation. Muslims who have broken the secular laws of the country and are sentenced to jail are already treated to halal food, rather than the poorly cooked slop available to other prisoners. Muslims are allowed special dispensations so that they can pray five times a day.
The latest chapter in Britain's bizarre pandering to the piety of its 4,500 jailed Muslim criminals is to spend tax-payers' money in refurbishing prison lavatories, so that defecating Muslims do not point towards the direction of Mecca.
The news is carried by The Sun and the BBC. In Brixton jail in south London, two new toilet blocks are being installed, and following pressure from Muslim leaders, the lavatories are orientated so that prisoners are pointed in anotehr direction, rather than aligned to the "Qiblah" or "Kiblah" the direction of Mecca.
It is a shame that these Muslims leaders do not instill in Muslims the need to obey the law, and therefore not end up in prison.
A Home Office spokeswoman said: "The refurbishment has been carried out with due consideration for all faiths."
One Muslim who was jailed for criminal activity said: "The least the Prison Service can do is make sure people can practise their religion correctly in prison."
Again, there is no need for this. If they were good Muslims, they would not have broken the law. Until Brixton prison rotated the lavatories 90 degrees to avoid causing offence, Muslims had to perch themselves sideways onto the seat of the loo to avoid pointing their butts or faces toward Mecca.
The Sun quoted a prison officer from Brixton jail, who said: "If they didn't get locked up for committing crime they would not have this problem. Yet we have to sort out their loos. If we weren't paying for it as taxpayers I'd laugh my socks off."
Around a quarter of prisoners at the Category B jail are Muslims. The real enemy of Britain is not so much the horde of barbarians at the door, but the faceless politically-correct civil servants. Paid for by citizen's taxes, but never elected, these secretly conspire to make the country run on their skewed and appeasing policies.Labour MP Khalid Mahmood said: "As far as I understand this rule only applies in a place of worship."
Tory MP Ann Widdecombe said: "Some common sense needs to be applied."
