Iran: Islamist Leader Cannot Take A Joke, Or a Bath
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is currently acting as if he is barking mad, which we will try to explain later today, appears to have no sense of humour at all. Italy's AKI news agency reports that the crazed Islamist leader has been incensed by an anonymous text message, widely disseminated, which says that he does not wash enough.
He has fired the president of a phone company, has taken legal action concerning the text, and has had four people arrested. These have been accused of collaboration with Mossad, the Israeli intelligence agency. The news was reported originally in Rooz Online, an anti-government website.
Rooz claims that it is an Iranian national pastime to poke fun at its grubby-looking leader. Jokes comparing Iran's nuclear programme to sex are circulating, and several individuals have received court summonses for making jokes along these lines.
There is also a clampdown on internet bloggers, who apparently number 100,000. 70% of these have faced harassment or imprisonment, states Rooz.
The Iranian regime admits that since the start of the electoral compaigns, prior to last June's election, text messages have been monitored.
