UK: Scottish Anti-Terror Units Arrest Young Muslim
News from The Scotsman reports that yesterday morning, a group of 60 police officers, some armed, surrounded a house in Alva, Clackmannanshire, and then used a battering ram to enter the house, where they arrested a 20-year old Muslim man, Mohammed Atif Siddique. The raid took place at around 7 am in the morning.
Siddique had been under surveillance for several weeks leading up to his arrest. He was taken to Govan Police station in Glasgow, the location designated for the processing of terror suspects under the terms of the UK's Terrorism Act 2000.
Siddique lived with his family in a four-bedroom home, opposite the home of local Labour Member for Parliament, Gordon Banks.
The family owned an nearby grocery store and off-licence (selling alcohol, forbidden to Muslims). Siddique occasionally worked in the shop.
As is usual after a terror arrest, neighbours told the press that Siddique was a "nice fellow". Siddique attended a mosque in nearby Alloa, and also studied computing at Glasgow College of Nautical Studies, which is close to the Central Mosque.
