Russia: Islamists In Gun Battle In Caucasus
Today's Khaleej Times reports that a gun-battle took place yesterday in Nazran, the main city of Ingushetia in the Caucasus.
The firefight caused one policeman and two suspected Islamists to be killed, and two policeman hospitalised. A thhird militant was wounded, according to Roman Shchekotin of Russia's Interior Ministry.
The militants had been hiding out in a house near a school. Shchekotin said ammunition and automatic weapons had been retrieved from the building.
The two dead militants were named as brothers Umar and Magomed Barchishvili. Residents of Ingushetia, they were already wanted for their suspected involvement with several attacks. The wounded gunman was named as ALi Gazgireyev. He was under armed guard in hospital.
