Cuba: Islamic-Communist Alliance Marches Ahead
Yet another instance of either Cuba or Venezuela strengthening ties with an Islamic country: (Article from Cuban mouthpiece Prensa Latina reproduced in full below.)
Havana, Apr 5 (Prensa Latina) Biotechnology and information stand out among branches Cuba and Malaysia aim to strengthen, as authorities from the two countries examine Thursday in this capital how to further boost bilateral relations.Malaysian Foreign Minister Seri Syed Hamid Albar and Cuban Information Science and Communication Minister Ignacio Gonzalez Planas signed a protocol summing up all items discussed in the 3rd Session of the Inter-Government Commission.
The protocol includes sealing agreements in finance, biotechnology, information technology, agriculture, radio and television, trade, sports, culture, investments and others.
The Asian nation foreign minister expressed satisfaction for the good state of links between Havana and Kuala Lumpur, and called to work for making them more dynamic and solid, particularly in trade.
As for information technology and communication, Cuba requested credit facilities to purchase computers and organize jointly the production and sale of Cuban-made medical equipment in the southeastern Asian nation.
Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi will pass on the NAM presidency to President Fidel Castro during the Non Aligned Movement Summit, slated in Havana next September.
A note to the innocent: one of the things Cuba needs for its military are advanced computers, which are hard to buy thanks to the American embargo. One of the things it has to offer is biological weapons technology mixed with "medical equipment". Oddly enough, that's the transaction being proposed.
