Iraq: Anti-Jihad Operation Continues

Yesterday while watching cable news channel MSNBC one of the female anchors, in a very self-righteous tone, asked one of the commanders involved in Operation Swarmer why, oh why was the operation kept secret. Oh, I don't know, because we were about to send thousands of men into combat.

At any rate, it is still a good day to hunt Jihadis: Operation Swarmer continues

American and Iraqi forces have entered the second day of a massive anti-insurgency operation near the northern city of Samarra.

The 1,500 troops taking part in Operation Swarmer descended on an area to the northeast of the city, hunting for rebels and members of the al-Qa'eda extremist Islamist group.

Around 48 people were detained and six weapons caches found, but American forces did not report encountering any insurgents.

Earlier, US officials estimated that there were around 40 active insurgents in the area. However, the deputy governor of the province of Salaheddin, Abdallah Hussein, put the figure at closer to 200.[...]
