Norway: Knife Fight At Oslo Mosque - Imam Wounded
Yesterday evening in a masjid in Norway, an unholy row broke out, leaving at least four people seriously injured, states the PakTribune.
The Markazi Jamaat Ahle Sunnat mosque, in the district of Gronland, was formerly led by Malik Mohammad Raza. On Friday evening, he was set upon outside the mosque/masjid by a group of armed men, according to the PakTribune. The exact details of the case then become rather vague.
The Norwegian newspaper VG stated that Labor politician Khalid Mahmood (pictured) was attacked, and his claims are repeated in Aftenposten. But according to Malik Mohammad Raza, who suffered wounds, it was the politician and his associates who attacked him.
Mahmood is a deputy member of parliament, and a city council representative in Oslo.
A police source stated: "We first got a report that five-six people were fighting outside the mosque. It was said that one of these was driven by taxi to the emergency ward. When we arrived at the scene it became clear that three persons had been injured and gone to the emergency ward."
In retaliation for the attack outside the mosque, some people had gone inside to attack people inside. Mahmood is reportedly a supporter of one of the factions within the mosque. He claims that he was attacked by a man with a knife, who escaped in a taxi.
The Markazi Jamaate Ahle Sunnat Oslo is a mosque frequented and run almost exclusively by Muslim immigrants from Pakistan.
The PakTribune states that: "Police persons told newsmen that they had no knowledge of the politician being attacked".
Aftenposten also relate that police, upon being asked by them, stated that they did not have knowledge of the politician being attacked.
Dagbladet newspaper was told by a witness that one of the individuals was standing outside the mosqe when four men approached, one carrying an iron bar, another a knife. The victim was struck about the head with the iron bar.
In the emergency ward at the hospital, a man was arrested for being in possession of a knife, states NTB news agency.
None of the injured individuals are said to be in a serious condition.
