Ummah: Sales Of Islamic Cola Soar During Protests

Mecca Cola

News from India Telegraph states that during the recent protests against the Danish cartoons of the prophet Mohammed, one company, based in the United Arab Emirates have been making a killing, if not literally.

While for many protesting Muslims, hatred of everything Western has been at an all time high, with even Ronald MacDonald being abused for being a non-Muslim (see below), the sales of Mecca Cola have seen a surge in popularity, with its sales during the cartoon crisis tripling.

Taoufik Mathlouthi, CEO of Mecca Cola states: "Growth came with these Danish caricatures. It’s crazy but our sales multiplied by three ... We cannot supply all the demand we have right now."

Iran has a product called Zam Zam Cola, whose name capitalises on the famed holy Zam Zam water which was drunk by Mohammed, and whose spring near Mecca is regularly visited by Hajj pilgrims.

A British company which marketed a "Muslim" product called Qibla Cola went into receivership last September, shortly after it set up a factory.

Sales figures for Zam Zam Cola are not known, but it would be better that no-one tries to drink the bottled so-called Zam Zam water, which was on sale in Britain last year. The "holy water" turned out to be dangerously toxic.
