Indonesia: Muslim Cartoon Protesters Storm US Embassy
Associated Press, via Hindustan Times reports that in Jakarta, Indonesia's capital, about 400 Muslims attacked the US Embassy today.
Either the Muslims involved were particularly stupid, or particularly rabid, for the US has not condoned the publication of the Danish cartoons which initiated the world-wide conflagration. These Muslims were apparently protesting against the images, first published in Danish newspaper, Jyllands Posten.
The protesters used sticks and stones, broke windows, and several individuals were injured. The protesters carried a banner emblazoned with the slogan: "We are ready to attack the enemies of the Prophet."
An image of George W Bush and a US flag were burned. US embassy spokesperson said the actions of the rabble were deplorable, and called their deeds, acts of "thuggery".
Previous Indonesian demonstrations against the cartoons were carried out by the Front Pembela Islam, or Islamic Defender's Front, an Islamist vigilante group, which specialises in attacking Christians in their homes. Ruy Diaz in the previous entry quotes a Japanese source confirming that today's attacks were carried out by this group, which was founded in 1998 and has vigliante squads in 22 Indonesian provinces. Many of the group's leaders come from the Middle East, and their paramilitary wing, the Laskar Pembela Islam regularly smash up bars, clubs and pool halls. They were active in an anti-American campaign in 2001.
The disgusting behaviour of Muslims protesting ostensibly against the cartoons is turning into a free-for-all, where any non-Muslim organisation or group of people is regarded as a legitimate target. In Germany on Friday 10th, a daily newspaper, Der Taggespiegel depicted the Iranian football team as suicide bombers. As a result, on the 14th, the German embassy in Tehran was attacked by the Bassij, President Ahmadinejad's vigilantes, with a picture here.
In Pakistan the "cartoon protests" are merely a front to attack Musharraf's policies. A cleric has offered a $16,700 reward for the murderer of the cartoonists responsible, yet has not been arrested. On the 14th Feb, in Lahore, even Ronald MacDonald became a victim of the mob (pictured).
In Hong Kong yesterday, Chinese Muslims stayed at home, but foreign Muslim workers decided to make their feelings of rage (yawn) apparent for the world to see. The Jews and Israel had nothing to do with the original publication of the cartoons, but for these antisemitic morons, little issues like the truth hardly matter (see picture below).
In Nairobi last week, a western couple was attacked during a cartoon demo, merely because they were "western".
In Nigeria, Christians were indiscriminately attacked by rampaging Muslims yesterday, in Maiduguri, capital of Borno state in the northeast of the nation. Eleven churches were destroyed in the "cartoon protests", and one person was "necklaced", having a tyre placed around him, then petrol, which was ignited. Many of the victims were attacked inside churches.
Sky News reports that in the Maiduguri attacks, sixteen people were killed by the mob. Three children and a Catholic priest were killed. This is not the first Catholic priest to have been killed in these senseless displays of Islamic lunacy. But why should three innocent children be made responsible in any way for the issue of the cartoons?
The Telegraph reports that so far, a total of at least 41 people have died as a result of Muslim protests against the cartoons, with at least 27 people dying this weekend in Nigeria and in Libya.
The mentality of the Muslim rabble goes back to the early days of Islam. After Umar ibn al-Khattab, the second Caliph, was assassinated in 644 AD, the third Caliph, Uthman ibn Affan, was butchered by a rampaging mob of Muslims in 656 AD. Islam, at its very heart, is a sick and violent faith. The mindless displays of barbarity witnessed now are not new phenomena. They are integral to Islam.
This sort of behaviour, manipulated by Islamic radicals, only shows that from now on, Islam can never be described as the "Religion of Peace" without employing a super-sized portion of irony.
