The Cartoons - New Band Out to sing the looney tune
The Cartoons have for years been the name of a crazy Danish pop band, not to be taken particular serious, but amusing to both watch and listen to. Now if you google cartoons and Denmark, something completely different turns up.
The Furore of the muhammad drawings remains alive and kicking following the Friday prayers around the Arab world and Europe.
In Denmark 180 moslems and exmoslems, will form an organization to counter "Islamic Faith Community" which has been primus motor in bringing the cartoon case to the attention of the Moslem world.
One of the leading forces is Worldly moslem and MP for the Social liberal party Naser Khader And Abu Laban, leading voice in "islamic Faith Community", spend a good amount of his sermon thundering against Naser Khader, one of the reasons being that he does not hesitate asking "disdained" and "insulted" imans, questions like this one :
"Why are there no complaints, when it comes to terror committed in the name of Islam"
Same Abu Laban and other members of "islamic Faith Community" have been caught Lying and for sneaking images of dubious origin along with the original 12 drawings, which have caused government support party; Danish people“s party To push successfully the government, to look into if it is possible to expel any of the imans.
Abu Laban, the busy bee, also featured in the BBC programme, Hard Talk. According to Danish newspaper Politiken where he was pitted against Editor Chief of "Jutlands Posten";Flemming Rose for a debate about the drawings and freedom of speech, My translation of a selection to follow:
( Asked why the paper wrote in its apology that it was not its intention to insult anybody ? Rose replies: )
"I am not an expert"
"But do you know that it is blasphemy, to make images of the prophet?", Host Stephen Sackur asked.
"That is not true", Rose replied and remarked that in Teheran one can buy posters featuring Muhammad.
Then Sackur asks Laban if he is not grateful for living in a country where there is freedom of speech ?
To which he replied "yes"
Sackur went on "You had your point of view oresented in Denmark, but you were not satisfied with that right ? So you send out a delegation to make this a international matter"
Abu Laban replied "that moslems in Denmark are viewed as pupils, that must sit still and listen to what the teacher says. But the teacher in this case did not practise as he preach"
Rose Breaks in : "There is no teacher/pupil relationship, quite on the contrary".
"Moslems in Denmark are in fact by these drawings being treated like anyone else"
"We are making satire over you as we do with the queen and politicians" he said.At the end of the Programme Rose was asked if he feared for his life and well being considering what happened to Theo Van Gogh.
That he was not, he replied. And it would unfortunate in particular, if he should be afraid because he put spotlight on the issue of freedom of speech.
And indeed how right he is, that would be most unfortunate, and not only that. In this case it would be Talibanization of not only a Ghetto area in Europe, but of a cornerstone in our democracy, the freedom of press which means the right to satire and tell the ugly truth, even if it is about a prophet with 1.4 bio followers.
