Palestinian Abomination: HAMAS Wins Elections, World Whines
"The Glorious March of Democracy" continues: Hamas 'secures stunning victory'
There are strong indications that the Islamic militant group Hamas has won a stunning victory in Wednesday's Palestinian parliamentary elections.Final results are to be announced at about 1900 local time (1700GMT).
But Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei has already announced his resignation, as the ruling Fatah party conceded defeat.
A Hamas victory will pose a great dilemma for the international community as it tries to restart peace talks with Israel, correspondents say.[...]
Look, if the title of this entry and my introductory sentence sounds bitter, it is because I am bitter. I am bitter our strategy for victory consists of asking our enemies, nicely, to become like us. (This is utter foolishness; all they have to do to beat us is say 'no.') This HAMAS victory will be spinned, talked out, soothed, and meanwhile our soldiers will be killed, our people will continue to be in danger from terrorism, and the demographic time bomb will continue to tick, tick, tick in Europe.
I'll go drink Cafe con Leche or something.

It astounds me how news pundits and commentators have bought in to the supposed importance of this event, using terms like `historic' and `unprecedented' and casting it as an epic battle between Fatah `moderates' and Hamas `militants'.
In reality, there was never much difference.
Hamas and a coalition of Fatah hardliners always controlled Abbas, and he was only useful as a front man to bring in money from the EU and to a lesser extent, from America.
That usefullness is almost at an end, thanks to the EU freezing donations to the PA 3 weeks ago because of the PA's bloated payroll and lack of financial transparency. That's what REALLY determined the election results.
J O S H U A P U N D I T: Hamas wins Palestinian Parliamentary elections; Abbas asks Hamas to form a government.
Israeli PM Olmert in particular looks like an idiot after his attempt to entice the Palestinians into `voting correctly' by allowing non-Israeli Arabs to vote for a hostile government in Israeli sovereign territory, hinting at more Israeli withdrawals and jailing a group headed by MK Effie Eitam who were peacefully protesting the Israeli government's cave-in on allowing Arabs in East Jerusalem to vote in an election between terrorist entities.
Both the EU and US emphatically stated that they would not deal with a government that had Hamas as a member, but the finessing has already started.
The Israeli government, after a huge blunder with the Gaza withdrawal, will be faced with some hard and increasingly limited choices.
One of the big winners in the Palestinian election? Bibi Netanyahu.
