Holland: Islamist Hofstad Group Trial - One Man Freed
In a short report from Expatica today, one of the fourteen men in court charged with being Islamist terrorists belonging to the Hofstadgroep (Hofstad Group), has been set free on orders of the court.
Rachid B., aged 29, is a close friend of Mohammed Bouyeri, who murdered film-maker Theo van Gogh on November 2, 2004. Rachid B. has already spent 13 months in custody.
The panel of three judges ruled that if convicted, Rashid B. would not get a longer sentence than the time he has already spent in jail. His lawyer hopes to have his client fully acquitted.
Rachid B insists that he is not a Muslim extremist, and says he was unaware of Mohammed Bouyeri's plans.
