Spain: Fourteen More Suspected Islamists Arrested
We reported earlier on recent arrests of suspected Islamists in Spain: on November 23, 11 people were arrested in Alicante, Murcia and Alicante, and on December 9, 7 Algerians were arrested in the Costa del Sol, with another man linked to those charged after the November 23 arrests apprehended trying to leave the country last week.
Today, Xinhua News and Expatica report that 14 people have been arrested during the night of Sunday/today, in the cities of Lerida, Malaga, Nerja, Seville and on the Balearic islands.
100 police officers were involved in the operation, and properties are currently being searched.
The recent operations operations against suspected terrorists have been connected with activities of fundraising and supporting the Salafist Group for Preaching and Combat (GSPC), an Algerian group with links to al-Qaeda, which has cells in other countries of Europe.
